Looking to decide what the best option is for a puffy pant. Going on a November hunt in Colorado and can’t decide what the best option is for my pant

Jumping in bc I need some for me and my wife in Alaska in sept for caribou drop hunt. Hope you don’t mind me following along OP.

If primarily backpacking I would go with down unless you expect it to be wet a lot. If weight is less of a concern, I would go with synthetic.

I'm using a pair of Sitka with synthetic and really like them. Most of my cold, late-season hunts are day hunts or shorter trips so weight isn't a big factor.

I’ve been looking for some Sitka for Alaska but not sure how I feel about the capri puffy pants. Lol

Better to be warm and look like a girl than freezing your bits off and looking like a man. Plus, just throw rain gear over them and no one will know.

I’ve been thinking though the Sitka kelvin, Sitka Uncompaghre , an older kuiu and under armor alpine ops down pants.

I have went full Under armor. They are warm, pack down small and quiet enough to bow hunt

Where did you find them?

I ordered them directly from the Sitka website but they don't sell them anymore for some reason.

I would probably order the KUIU Kenai Pant if buying today since the Sitka pants aren't full length now. Either of the Super down pants would be a great choice if you want the best warmth to weight ratio. I haven't used any of these so I'm just basing this opinion on my experience with other KUIU pants.

KUIU Superdown Pro pants are great for cold weather glassing. I've never got them wet so I can't comment on that scenario but they're wayyyyyy warmer, lighter and much more packable than my synthetic Kifaru LP pants. I haven't used anything from Sitka but I've used the FL Uncompaghre and it's pretty useless in my opinion.

They are great pants. I have gotten them SOAKED several times and they have yet to lose their loft. For the weight to warmth ratio, they are also pretty durable.

Agree 100%, I got the Pro over the Ultra for a little more insulation and much more durable fabric. It's still going to get shredded eventually but it will last longer than most others due to the heavier fabric in the lower legs and butt.

Have you taken a Look at the SG Gruman pant they seem very durable

I have the SG Gruman and while I think they are just as warm as the Kuiu Pro. They are not as durable
2 questions
Would you take the Gruman over the Super down ultra
If yes is the pro pant worth the extra cost over gruman

Dang! I just bought the down Sitka hoody with the gore wind stopper. lol. As dumb as it is, I’d prefer to keep the same camo pattern with the puffy set if I could. Might have to sell the puffy and go kuiu for puffy pants and jacket. Sucks they don’t have womens sizes. My wife needs a set too

The Grumman and Ultra are very similar. The KUIU Pro is substantially warmer and more durable. I tore a hole in my Grumman on the corner of the cardboard box when it 1st arrived, durability is not its strong point.

Here's a copy/paste of a spreadsheet I've been making as I'm evaluating my next pair of puffy pants. I currently own the ultra's and have shredded them and found myself shivering. Doesn't help your synthetic vs. down debate, but might help if you decide to go down.

The Rab Pants seem very compelling any idea how good their coating is and how durable they are?
