Don't dry fire your bow they said. It'll mess up your cams they said.. well....

It turns out they were right. I thought it would never happen to me but mid way through my round of 3D and blam-o... I guess I got too excited at a cool target. Revolt X cams donezo

Well now that I'm just another cautionary tale, I'm wondering how much damage I did. Clearly both cams are collapsed. It didn't throw the string and the limbs look fine. Thoughts? I'm taking it to the shop tomorrow.

The only reason it didn’t throw the strings is because the cams collapsed.

my buddy did this on his bow right at the beginning of a hunt. Scrambled to get it fixed at a local shop and the guy was super helpful for hours on end but couldn’t get his bow press to work with the carbon fiber bow.

Looks like the cams took the brunt of the damage. New cams, strings, you'll probably be fine. Definitely check the limbs just to be sure.

I would call you an idiot, but I did the same thing a couple summers ago. I feel your pain. Hopefully you can get it up and running before the season starts.

Bowtech will probably warranty it. Even though they probably shouldnt lol. Good luck getting it going again! BT is good about getting parts out pretty quick.

i saw this with a brand new hoyt several years ago at TAC. the funny thing was this kids brother did the same thing the season before. not sure if it was an accident both times or just looking for a different bow from dad. either way it was a sight to see.

It happens, don’t kill yourself over it. Same thing happened at our archery league last year, but think her bow survived. I have never done what you did, but I have been close. A few times I have set my bow hand, hooked up my release, and began to draw. Luckily I noticed I was missing an arrow.

Well, I ALMOST did the same thing at the archery shop while trying out a coupe bows.
Imagine paying for the repairs on a bow you were just trying!
