How are you cinching them closed and hanging them in trees (when needed)? I have 8-10 animals hauled/hung using my Argali bags and they are showing no signs of stopping soon.

That's a good question! I don't think they are unreasonably priced either. I used both Argalia and Kuiu and they worked great. I like the reflective tape on them and different sizes. I can't sew either. :)

You just tie the top in a knot just like a garbage bag and it’s completely sealed. Where I hunt one small hole in the bag means you will have eggs from flys all over your meat in minutes. Any game bags without a tight mesh are worthless.

As far as hanging, if I hang them (rarely do) I just take a piece of rope, loop it around knot, and hang from a tree. The rope will not pull off the knot.

I normally just place bags on trees with branches horizontally. If for some reason I want to hang them like your classic pictures, I will hang as described above from knots.

Have fun, save your money! Or not…. Western hunting doesn’t have to be expensive.

I have a nice set for back pack hunts and use cheap game bags or old pillow cases if I end up shooting something closer to the truck. Each have a time and place and I think it’s best to utilize both.

My wife likes when I throw game bags away and don’t use her washer 😂

Ive used large white pillow cases for game bags for years. I also have some tag bags, and other than the draw string and reflective stuff on them, no difference. I just cinch up the top of the pillow case and tie them closed with blaze orange 550 cord. I do like the large elk size tag bags though, I think they are larger, but I have some really big pillow cases I got from walmart, for a couple dollars a piece

Man the Allen meat bags are cheap and I can't even count how many deer and antelope I put through a set of those.
edit: I just looked them up to post a link, they're not cheap anymore wow.

I recently noticed that too.... I got a set of Allen XLs 3 years for like 20 bucks for everything. Moose/elk/deer in them and they are holding up fine. I needed to get a set for a friend this year and the XLs got expensive!!

The bone in Caribou Wapiti bags weigh ~ 18 oz and pack up tiny that's a big deal to me. How much do the homemade ones weigh and how bulky are they? Maybe they're better! I could survive with knotting it closed with paracord. I do like the baseball theme

If you knew the things I did on my sheets, you'd understand why I wouldn't use them as game

Funny you say that, I’ve seen more guys “handle their meat” so poorly the bags are the last thing they need to be worrying about.

FYI for the clean freaks, Walmart, brand new two sheets and one pillow case 6 bucks. That will make you enough for two elk.

You can knot it with para cord, or not. I rarely do. Just tie in a knot, lift and knot is very hard to get undone (don’t use your teeth) if you have to get quarter out later, a pair of pliers work good, but they’re so cheap I just cut them.

That’s the beauty of sheets. You can pick your poison when shopping at goodwill or Walmart. You can go super light, or heavy depending on your hunt.

FYI pillow cases are ok, but a big rear quarter will have you struggling hence the reason I like sheets. You can customize the size you like based on animal. I’ve used them for sheep, goats, bears, elk, moose, never an issue.

Yep weight and bulk are a big deal. I’ve used pillow cases. I’m going with my Tag Bags. No fly is laying eggs through them. They rinse out nearly like new just using a cold stream. I bought them just to see what I’d think. I love them! The set I have has had 10 or 12 elk in them and they look like new. Cost? Haha really…. This is elk hunting. Not squirrel hunting! I never made it a part of my life to save money. Lol 😂

Out of curiosity, I just weighed 5 bags, 4 of them are 24x32 and 1 is 20x30 total weight 13.5 oz. I can put all 5 inside my jetboil.
