Done with KUIU!?

It’s been two hours since I left the store and am still pissed off. So, I want to know from other like minded folks if I am out of line?

I have used Kuiu since the beginning. I live close and frequent the store often to buy used/return items also new items when I get a discount code. I own a lot of Kuiu products and it is the only manf. I own for hunting clothes (Not that this matters).

last Kuiu sale (month ago or so) I got the 145 zip hoodie in XXL. I usually wear a XL but after a season or two the length shrinks some and my older shirts are too short to wear on backpack hunts. I wanted to try to upsize in hopes of fixing this problem. It came and I took it out the box and threw it in my pack. This morning I get to the trailhead and pull it out to put it on and realize the length on the arms are super long. I wear it up the hill and do my glassing and realize the sleeve is just too long. Take it off and put it in the pack. Come home and decide to run up to the Kuiu store to exchange it and buy a pair of pants.

i am told in the store that they do not accept returns for anything used and only give 60 days for returns on new items!!!…

I have never read their return policy, but based on years of shopping with them (in store) my assumption was returns and exchanges wouldn’t be an issue.(yes after I left the store I read their return policy although the “100% satisfied with your purchase” seems a bit much).

I had the original tiburon shirt RETURNED after hunting with it cause the arms/sleeves were cut too tight, I have a Canada made down jacket with duct tape on it I purchased from them in store (assuming it was a return), purchased used gators were the original owner made a custom front loop to hook into the front string on your boot. I could go on and on about items I have purchased with NOTHING noticeably wrong presumably would have been returns or exchanges.
Do they want me to slice the stitching to make a hole and do a warranty claim (which I will not nor would I lie to them when they asked If I wore it).

Am I out of line for being pissed off KUIU wouldn’t entertain the idea of an exchange or help me any other way possible? Do they want honest folks like myself to lie and cheat the system (warranty claim) in order to achieve what you can get from box stores carrying other top name brands?

Off your story I don't think they're out of line tbh.
Kind of shitty modern company behaviour?
Yes.
But that's what I'd expect from a modern company that outsourcers production tbh.

Keep the top, get the sleeve length altered to suit your needs and be happy.

First Lite story: Last September son ordered 2 prs of First Lite Corrugate pants and a jacket for a Wyoming mule deer hunt 2 weeks before the hunt. Shipping was delayed by them and did not receive the items until after he had left for the hunt. By the time he returned from the hunt, 30 days from the order date had expired so they would not accept a return. Items were unopened in the bag and sold at a 50% off discount on FB marketplace. Doubt he will be purchasing any more FL gear. 30 days should run from the shipping date. Bought him a couple of prs of Wrangler performance outdoor pants at WM en route and worked fine.

I talked to Kuiu a couple years ago. They said they were transitioning all China production out of China.
I believe them. Until I opened my super down ultra vest today and it is made in China. I guess that’s what I get for believing them.
I’m done with Kuiu. Now onto finding a company not making crap In China.
Anywhere but China.

I am disappointed with the quality of their product and even less impressed with their customer service. I will never buy kuiu again. I don’t consider myself to be a sour grapes kind of guy, but my experience with them was so bad I decided I would share it frequently.

I actually like Kuiu products. I just wish I can guess the right size the first time, instead of playing the return game and paying the $7.95 or is it $9.99 return shipping.

I would not think they would take back a used item unless it had some sort of defect. I wouldn't let that experience stop me from using their stuff. Not only do they make great gear, but you have the benefit of being close to take advantage of discount merchandise at their store.
I would not turn my back on them over your experience over one garment that you weren't happy with. Think of all the money you have saved over the years by being able to buy returns at their store.

Regardless of what took place with the OP. I have had generally poor experiences with KUIU customer service, enough so that I wouldn’t and haven’t patronize them in several years. While I am very demanding of my gear I am pretty reasonable in regards to dealing with a retail company as I understand the challenges they face. Kuiu fell way short in my experiences in dealing with their products quality control issues.

I had a bad kuiu CS experience a few years back - they put out a batch of ants without a dwr and then tried to Jedi mind trick me into saying they were never supposed to be coated with DWR, they took them back but the whole thing was way too much pain in the ass. That episode and their erratic sizing Kept me mostly away from them for a while apart from their pants and zip off bottoms which are awesome. recently, I decided to give them a try again and ordered some tops. Them seem pretty solid but I won’t know until this Fall. I am gonna try the axis soft shell And see if I like them.

back in the day, they used to say that no middle man (direct retail sales from website stead of stores) meant a better deal on gear and it seemed like they were about 20% less than comparable Sitka stuff. I think they have caught up on price now.
