I've had some problem backyard coyotes interacting with my dogs and i'm working on shooting the coyotes.
Just wondering what experiences people have had with dog / coyote interactions? I'm asking because the other day I saw my border collie basically playing with one of the yotes. I assume he's trying to lead him back into the woods but I was surprised at the play. Just curious on other experiences.

play with the dog and then kill it, I knew an older woman who watched the yotes play with and then kill her dog.

I was hog hunting one night and 1 coyote messed with my dog. When she started to come back you could hear a scuffed again. The coyote drew my dog 400 yards away when I got there I saw eyes everywhere. I shot at a few of them they never had a chance to jump my dog but it was about to happen. Keep a close eye on your dog.

It's all fun and games till they get your dog back to the pack...then it's dinner time. I had the same problem in my back yard a few years ago. 22WMR solved it.

Hunted with Tony Tebbe in New Mexico who used a decoy dog to bring the coyote back into range after the coyote would become alarmed.

Sounds like old wives tales to me. All my knowledge of interactions with any kind of working breed involves coyotes having a bad time. Even smallish terrier mix breeds hold their own. Hounds thrash them, even 1x1.

That's the point. One leads it away so it isn't one on one anymore. It's 6 or 7 on 1.

I ended up by accident training my two Australian Shepherds to decoy by having coyotes mess with them so often. I’ve figured out they will send a female yote out to “play” and try to lure the dogs off where there will be 3 or 4 more waiting to jump it. I got an Airedale and now my shepherds have reversed the game they lure the yote to him and then he will finish it.

This behavior is very well documented and studied- not old wives tales. Coyotes do prey on domestic dogs.

I’ve seen solo coyotes play with my dogs on multiple occasions.

Decoying your dog back to the pack is a tactic used by wolves regularly, so doesn’t surprise me it’s used by coyotes as well.

My bluetick had only one interaction that I know of. And he was harassing the coyote. Had him cornered in a wood pile. I think my dog was going to kill that coyote but when I walked up the thing bolted. My dog chased that thing for miles but didn't come back bloddy so I assume he got out ran

They pulled the neighbors dog off the porch and killed it.
The other neighbor, lady let her weiner dog out to potty and a coyote grabbed it before it got off the porch.
People we bought our house from: Coyotes ran their dog into a corner of the fence and killed it... a big dog.

We live six miles from town.
I do my part in thinning them, but this area is infested with them.

This video is heartbreaking to watch, but shows the behavior that is prevalent with predators. In this video, wolves attack two dogs. It is very sad, but you should watch it very carefully, because the Coyotes employ the same tactics:

Is that a catahoula BMC cross?

Which one?
Top picture is my friends kemmer cur in the back that is the mother to my cur. On my lap on the left is an airedale cur cross pup that is out of my female cur and the dog the dog on the right. He is my dads 3/4 airedale 1/4 jack russell.

Middle picture is my female cur. She is half kemmer cur half leopard catahoula.

Bottom pic is my cur and a heideterrier. I don't have the heideterrier anymore.

I have a catahoula blue lacy cross pup I just got about a month ago to run with my female.
