Does a Kifaru coyote brown pack look like an elk?

I'm about to order a Highcamp bag to go with my Bikini frame, color is not too important so I was going to go with the cheapest (and lightest) option, coyote brown. But I'll be archery hunting colorado during the muzzlelaoder season and anything resembling an elk could be very bad (never understood the stupidity of an archery season in full camo yet the ML guys have to wear orange?). I like the color, but is it elk colored? The foliage green doesn't look very green either so do I have to fork out a fww more $ for multi-cam?

I'm sure if someone was dumb enough to not know their target and it does happen then off all the Kifaru pack colors yes coyote would be more "elk colored". If this is something you are concerned about then either get bit of blaze orange to put on it some places on the pack or get a different color.

Put some blaze on it if it concerns you. What's stupid is NOT having some blaze with you when bow hunting during any firearm season, whether its required or not.

one of the main reasons I went with multi cam was it makes me invisible. to animals and hunters

Not Kifaru but MR - I wanted to order a Dragonslayer in foliage but they were out of stock and it was going to be a while before they got them in stock so I went with coyote instead. I had a few initial concerns about looking too "gamey" but over time the color grew on me. I recently decided to purchase a T3 and was actually going to order it in coyote but found a damn good deal on a foliage one used. Long story short - it does kind of have elk coloring but was not an issue for me. I guess you could pick up a grab it in blaze if you were really that worried.

On the other hand, I was trying to get a client in closer to a bull and when we ran out of cover I turned my bag sideways and we both "hid" behind it to get under a 100 yards. Not sure if the bull really thought we looked like an elk or 2 idiots trying to hide behind a 2300 ci pack but regardless one shot from his muzzleloader and the bull came home with us.

I like the brown colors from both companies, but refuse to use them for the reasons stated above. I wouldn't worry too much about it in AK or even anywhere in Canada, but here in the STates...NO WAY...Too many "brown its down" kinda guys out there.

MR's Foilage color is pretty much gray, but Kifaru's most recent "foilage green" has a green tint to it.

We got trigger happy guys in Canada too. I have been scoped on more than one occasion, not fun and even more frustrating is that every time the guy had binoculars hanging off his neck:mad:

The coyote bag with black webbing is 2oz lighter than the coyote/coyote bag, and the black bikini is 3.5oz lighter than the coyote bikini. I have a EMR in multicam, and will be rifle hunting, which in this state involves a lot of guys drinking beer at six o'clock in the morning and driving ATVs wherever they can, not where they are allowed. Back packing should get me away from the worst of it, but to be safe I will be using a Blaze Orange Grab It, 4oz and $31 of piece of mind. My camp will be in the EMR. Day pack will be long pockets, KU pod, and .Grab It on the duplex frame. Foliage is a grey-green, works well where I work, and not too bad in the woods down here.

Just my $.02.

So who hear knows someone that was shot at because of pack color?

I have used the ku brown and have the coyote brown Highcamp this year and really am not concerned. If someone is dumb enough to fire off a round at an unknown target it will be towards movement but I could be wrong. I just never actually have heard of someone getting shot because of pack color or of it happening enough to be of serious concern, just speculation :)

But I probably will not attach my HUD to my bow during ML season :)

Dotman you said if someone is dumb enough. May not happen every day but it does happen enough. I know some one that was wearing the brown carhardt coveralls and was nearly shot. The only reason he was not shot is the guy with the gun was a poor shot. This was about 10 years ago. After the shot my buddy started yelling once behind cover. The other guy realized his mistake and took off running. So if I can maybe reduce the chance of being mistaken for a game animal by changing pack color or clothing, I will.

I guess it just hasn't worried me enough. From what I have seen most ml guys are just as dedicated as archery with fewer of the bad crowd but that is just what I have experienced and know it isn't the rule and anything can happen.

In my state there have been a few hunting fatalities over the years, but 99+% of them were kids killing parents. Most people who ignore Rule Number Four can't hit a deer sized target at 100+ yards. I am much more worried about folks guarding clandesine grow operations, amateur chemists (Breaking Bad The Home Game), and just plain stupid/altered/drunk/stoned/crazy dickheads, for whom my pistol is the best medicine

BUT, on the other hand... The idiots only need to be lucky, not skilled.

I carry a cheap cotton blaze vest for bowhunting during a firearm season (even if not required).

You can wear it if your seeing a lot of gun hunters, you can wave it if you start taking incoming rounds (been there done that). You can attach it to antlers if you have to hoof out a kill (honestly this part scares me the most.....a rack right up alongside my head in thick cover, no orange......recipe for getting brained).

They're cheap and light and might just save your life.

I don't worry about it at all. Rifle , muzzle loader I'm just not worried about it. When I'm walking I sometimes put on a blaze orange cap but thats it if vest is not required. I would bet that many accidents are not accidents at all but actually cold blooded murder because someone was PO'd about the victim spooking "their" game or in "their" spot. All the blaze orange in the world won't save you from those types.

I got a CB pack, to be honest I prefer that color to all except highlander.

I also put a foliage lid on it and a grab it that will be highlander. Maybe a pocket or 2. Breaks it up quite a bit. Also carry something orange for packing out anything.

My thinking is, if someones going to shoot at you cause they think your game its most likely going to be low light/low vis conditions, then the color is not as big of a matter. If it were rifle time, id pull out some orange. You cant stop stupid people. Id be a little more worried wearing dry earth tones and walking around than with just the pack.

Thanks. In most places you guys described it doesn't matter because you don't have an archery season going on the same time as a rifle season (where some blaze is usually required), or high hunter densities. Add to the fact most elk hunters call so that leads to a situation where you have a visual cue (color) and a sound cue (calling) which might be enough to cause a dangerous situation. So you might be safe with CB in most places, or deer hunting but perhaps not CO during the combined archery/ML elk season. It’s the stupidest season structure I’ve ever seen.

I figured an extra 2 oz and $20 were worth it for multicam just for peace of mind. A 50 cal slug has to hurt, a lot.
