Do you come on here for "advice"?

I'm sure I'm going to rustle some feathers (maybe that's the intentšŸ˜‚) but do people actually come on here for advice? Or do they just want to see their own thoughts/positions re confirmed? So many times I see guys asking "advice" on gear or tactics, etc... And then they don't change their mind or seem to dive into other options/thoughts after guys offer things up? I realize we have the same problem in general society. Not whining about people not listening idgaf if you don't want to listen to mešŸ˜‚. My question is am I just a pessimist or wrong?

I found this site looking for information. It's a good place to get it. Everyone has a different way of thinking and processing information. I read as much as I can, take all the ideas sort through the BS and do what I think will work best for me. I would have never used a floor less shelter before I found this site. Now I would never carry the extra weight of a standard tent. There is some knowledgeable people on here also some people that think there way is the only way. I think take all the information you need and use it how it best suits you .

Well said!

When I ask a question it is coming from a place of ignorance and I'm genuinely curious what people here have to say. There are some bad MFers on this site and I want to hear their thoughts.

That said, I certainly see a lot of threads started by guys asking for advice who clearly have already set their mind to something and want to hear people validate their choice. It's pretty obvious when you see 75+ percent of people telling the dude one thing, him ignoring those people and going with the handful of opinions that agree with what he clearly already decided.

We call those people askholes. They constantly ask for your advice and ignore it.

I have gotten really good advice here sometimes. I started a thread on glass upgrades last fall after I got back and got a lot of good input. I would up going a completely different route because of it.

I do put exponentially more weight on certain people's advice, though, as in the 7 years I've been a member I've found them to be straight shooters.

To answer the OPā€™s question: I have learned a ton here. There are some people that post here regularly that have decades of experience in very specific areas I do not. I am grateful for their willingness to share that wisdom.

Some people do just want to be reassured of a decision theyā€™ve already made or want to make. Thatā€™s not unique to this forum, thatā€™s typical human nature.

I think thereā€™s definitely good information on here but sometimes itā€™s hard taking advice from online

No not at all. I mean, hey I already know everything, so I come here to give advice, a supreme opinion...

okay all kidding aside, There is way more knowledge (hunting, shooting....) on this site than all the others combined, so it's a great place to come for others experiences, opinions, knowledge.... a confirmation, or too share one's own.

I think youā€™re correct. I rarely post because thereā€™s so many people looking to argue. I view this and several other forums I frequent like a daily newspaper. Something to read. There are absolutely some quality individuals here with good info.

Some of the folks who have already responded here are in the ā€œlike arguingā€ group. They know everything. If I read post after post from the same person and they have strong opinions about everything I assume they know nothing.

I think 90% of the posts that are AK-specific are guys looking for the final justification they need to buy Simms waders or a set of $700 rain gear. Especially the rain gear ones. They ask the question and then a dozen residents tell them to buy $40 rubber rain gear and the thread is updated a month later with "so I decided to pull the trigger on the Kuiu Yukon..."

Put me in the zero interest in arguing with strangers category. I don't feel like I know much in this world and I'll rarely chime in. Or at least it feels like rarely comparatively.

I joined up to get questions I have answered. I always try and search as it most likely has been asked.
Thereā€™s another site I read and rarely post thatā€™s like bar fight, angry old white guys strutting around from the safety of their dells.
