I'll be going to Utah for general rifle deer in October, and I have ability to take 3 days off to hunt that wont be paid as VT days.. Or I can hypothetically hunt early morning and then return to a hotel to work from my laptop, and then go out and hunt in the evening. I know staying on the mountain all day is ideal, but do any of you guys ever work from a hotel and hunt early and late in the day? the place i'll be hunting is about 45 mins to 1 hrs away from my hotel room.

Im worried that constantly coming into a spot and being noisy daily will kill my chances. I guess I know the answer to be most successful, but I was just curious what others had to say.

If it allows you to extend your hunt, I'd be all over it. I've handled some emails and did some work for clients on my phone while in the mountains.

Can your laptop connect to 4g. Lots of the mtns in utah have 4g. How else would we post all those flexed selfies in our flatbrims?

My buddy does it, but i will say he never kills anything. That may be him though...more concerned with work and less with hunting. Plus he exclusively longbows it. Id be all over it as well. Hoping to have that lifestyle soon enough, i'll hunt all season that way except for my days off of course.

That sounds freaking terrible. Go hunt and leave work for a few days.

I've convinced myself I could do such things before. The hunting and work both suffer, but primarily the work :D

My dad and nephew came out last year for the muzzleloaders hunt. My old man just wanted to hunt the mornings and rest in the afternoons. In 5 morning of hunting they both had multiple opportunities, one kill and 3 misses. Its doable. For the general hunt there will be some pressure so you never know where or when the deer will be moving through.

I do it waterfowl hunting for 20-30 days a year, and essentially do that deer hunting by home. Not ideal, but its a way to balance things.

I've been trying to figure out how to do this, but the hike+drive time always seems to kill it for me.

Ive done it, it works if you are realistic about your expectations. I would try to work out a flexible schedule with your manager (as to you are gone for 5 days and will "work" for two days as yet undeclared) as one day may have awesome weather or you could rest a sore knee and work on another day.

This is how I have done it and it has worked out for me, especially when I am hunting ducks.....

You have zero chance of killing a buck in your office. If working part of the day is the price of getting to hunt then I’d pay it. Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good.
