DIY Stryker Clone

pods8 built that one for me and it turned out exactly like I hoped. A bit bigger main bag, side pockets for spotter, tripod, nalgene, etc and a lot less PALS. Looking forward to getting out and putting some miles on it this weekend.

For me, extremely cost effective. Assuming you do not count your time. I probably have less than $50 invested in mine. Maybe quite a bit less. I never bother to calculate cost of a build because i always order more than i need so i can build other stuff later.

Sure. If you do not enjoy making things, do not do it just to save money. I enjoy the process and i like to constantly strive for higher level results on every project.

We are remodeling out master bedroom right now. I could've just bought shiplap for the wall. But im cheap, capable, and had the time. So i bought 2x8s at lowes and resawed, planed, and milled my own ship lap. Saved about $150 and proved i could do it. I think thats a lot of it for me. Seeing if i can do it.

I get almost all fabric and webbing from ebay. Zippers and such i get from rockywoods.com

Yep. What you want is labeled as 17337 one inch nylon webbing.

The materials to build a bag can be cost effective compared to the cost of a bag which is alot of labor. If buying small quantities from a variety of sources to gather up all the components then that'll certainly eat up the savings (esp. with extra shipping costs). But if you want something custom or like to tinker its gratifying, etc.

One thing I'll point out as I was asked to show that custom bag and have gotten some follow up inquiries.
1) I'm around to help sew up custom requests, if anyone is actually looking for a true clone I won't sew it as an order, it's already offered by kifaru buy their product.

2) A lot of PALS is a slow process manually, it'll drive up labor costs, I advise folks reaching out to me for custom stuff to think about how much they need, full panels of it aren't a great match for me (in terms of cost effectiveness) unless someone just has to have it in a custom configuration (and is less concerned with driving up the cost).

I finally got to put my stryker build to good use. It was pretty ideal for this hunt in NM. My strap system needs some work though. I don't like how the bag rides when it isn't compressing a load in the sling. Too many buckles adding length when no length is needed. I will prob go to G hooks. Pics are just loaded with cape and skull. A friend was shuttling meat to the truck as fast as we could pull it off in the heat.

Inspired by @WoodBow here is my take on the Duplex Lite and Stryker. I opted for a cobra buckle on my waist belt for ease of use, and a more treestand friendly/accessible front panel pocket. Haven't had a chance to hunt anything but squirrels with it yet, but I did carry my daughter in it for a mile when she gave up on walking!
