DIY portable archery backstop

I like it! I've a backstop but I've been working on a easy set up and tear down method for storage and transport. Giant sawhorse just might work.

This is exactly what I’ve been trying to plan out. What did you use to mount the stall mat? Did you pre drilled the mat or put screws directly through?

Great setup. I always wondered about that compressed hay for a target.

I've used a stall mat for a backstop and it's probably the safest option.
I realize this is the traditional archery section but be warned that a stray compound arrow (not that anyone misses with a compound) might require a winch or a come-along to pull out of the mat.

I can attest to this! Also beware that a fixed blade single bevel from a 70lb compound at 20 yards will go clean through the mat. Or, so a friend told me :cautious:

To iterate on the idea, I wonder if you put 2 horse stall mats up, would that help? Might be it too heavy to truly be portable.

I have a 1 inch or 0.75" thick stall mat that hangs from a frame of 1.5" square tubing and from 5 yards it stops those newish Easton field points on vap TKO 300s at 70lbs. Really had to work to get it out.
