I'm interested in your decision and testing for when I add my rear access zipper. I'm thinking about the wind mostly since I always try and direct the rear to wind to help stability

I decided to just run an open zipper. The hose test did get water coming through but it was minimal unless directly sprayed on it, so I might get a few droplets with normal Colorado rain but nothing substantial. I did however take the extra precaution of seam sealing the fabric tape on the zipper so the only place water can get through is the actual coil. I'll let you know how it does.
wow great job!
Thanks

Honestly, the zipper tape might soak through eventually but you will probably have more of an issue with condensation than water coming through.

Sorry fellas, I've been in the back country for 8 days but I think I've caught up with everyone who wanted a copy email to them. If I have missed you PM me I just cleared out my Inbox.

Myself and my buddy is this shelter for 8 days in the Colorado mountains. I have to say it worked out better than I'd even hoped for. We only had one night of rain but there was no issues with water coming in. The shelter is plenty roomy for two guys and during that night of rain we were actually able to squeeze a 3rd guy in, though it was tight. Wow you can fit two guys & gear and a stove, we usually left our bows and our packs outside for extra room. Condensation was a bit of an issue but was easily minimised with proper venting. It wasn't really cold enough to have a stove but it sure made a nice option for getting up in the morning to a warm tent. Total weight with stove ended up at 3 lb 7.5oz so it's a pretty lite weight option for 2 guys. All in all my buddy and I were happier with it than expected.

Looks good and glad to hear it worked.
Thank you for taking the time to document the process and share your plans. It looks strait forward enough and I look forward to the winter time project.
How did the hunt go?
