I find that I need to apply DWR conditioning products fairly often to keep my rain gear functioning properly, especially here in PNW. Is getting kind of expensive to treat these pieces after a few short trips.

I can purchase grangers DWR in bulk and save quite a bit between my lady and I, but I wonder:

What's in these expensive products?
Is it silly simple like cuorn starch and oil?
Had anyone tried making a product that works and doesn't cost a few dollars per garment to get an expensive piece of gear to function as it should?
What's in it?

If nobody has a simple solution, perhaps I'll mess with some things and see if there isn't a cheap, effective alternative.
