Curious if anyone has tried to make a chicken pesto pasta type DIY meal for the backcountry. I love the Peak Refuel version but I always prefer to make my own.

I have plenty of dehy chicken and pasta- just curious how you would do the pesto sauce?

Pesto (at least how I make it) has a lot of oil in it. I would vacuum seal it in a separate pouch and mix it in after re-hydrating the rest.

Agree with Marbles. Take a separate sealed container containing your pesto. Great fat source, and you can put that stuff on anything.

@Backyard I had a similar experience when trying to re-hydrate chicken. I found using canned chicken (home made or store bought) fixed the issue. Something with the pressure canning process breaks it down and allows it to re-hydrate. Using baked, boiled, grilled, etc. always resulted in in a jerky like product.
