Disc Extreme

Just picked up a new disc extreme. Went to the range and tried 110 grains of bh209 with no success. As in hang fires and flat out no fires. Switched to pellets to get sighted in. I did not have the bare 209 kit. I was shooting Winchester and cci primers in the red jacket. Can someone point me in the right direction here? Do you have to have an aftermarket breech plug to use blackthorn? I had no issue with pyrodex pellets. They fired. I just hate scrubbing the crud ring. I also bought a new bottle of bh209 with the same result. Any direction here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys

I have to say I am a bit surprised... but I also have a couple of questions...

1. Were the CCI primers CCI-209M's or just regular CCI-209's
2. Were the red jackets new or used?
3. In cases did the primer go off? or did the primer go off and the rifle failed to fire?

BH-209 is a smokeless progressive burning powder much like a bulky center fire powder. Because of this the powder requires a very hot ignition system. Also since it is progressive burning it requires compression, the fact the projectile and sabot need to fit snuggly and be pressed tightly down on the powder. The FPJ does stretch during ignition and does release compression and can cause hang fires or no fires especially if using jackets that have been fired before.

The NFPJ breech plug and bolt are more reliable in most cases.

Pyro pellets or any loose BP sub will all ignite with a lot less heat required and they are not progressive burning so compression is not as critical.

Thanks Mike. Jackets were all new and all primers went every time. Only once did the powder go and it was a hang fire. I believe they were m- cci primers. My omega had no problems with the powder and primers. I also tried Winchester primers and I couldn't lite the powder either. None of the primers were muzzleloader primers

I had the exact same problem with my disc and bh209. Hang fires all day long. I drilled out the breech plug to get more heat to the powder and that seemed to work the best. I'll look at the equip. when I get home tonight and might have some more advice on this.

Might try fiochi primers as well....

I eventually did buy the bare primer kit. I got tired of the plastic jackets. They were a pain to put on and since I'm cheap I reused them.
