Differences in pistol cartridge efficacy as a backcountry sidearm

I bounce between an M&P 5.7 loaded w/ 40 grain V-Max ammo and 9mms (shadow 2 compact, stacatto, PDP-Pro)..

I’m probably going to carry my M&P 5.7 exclusively moving forward when in grizz woods. It’s the most shootable, confidence inspiring, and reliable pistol I own. I know it’s a flawed data set but Buffman also has some pretty compelling ballistics gel reviews on YouTube regarding the 40 grain V-Max.

It also has the highest capacity, is the lightest, and is slimmest for fitting behind my bino holster. More people should own M&P 5.7s…

I listened to the podcast.

Daughter and I drew WT buck permits on the Marias. Last year the in-laws had a hunter get charged in my stomping grounds. The one good thing though is if you're up in the bluffs or coulees you can see for a long ways.

But those cotton wood bottoms in the dark are sketchy.

Kinda like the idea of spending some time with her and the TX22 then come fall loading it up with some hot defense ammo and getting a chest rig for her. The thing suppressed is a hoot. 23 rounds of hot ammo with me next to her would be decent.

Bear mace on the Hi-Line is retarded from the word go. Good luck when the wind is blowing 25+

Then I'm probably going to just start carrying the G19 clone.

The G40 and FN FNX 45 just suck to carry. By day two or three my shoulders are sore.

The 5.7 idea actually makes a ton of sense for this. Or the 22 mag.

Especially if I could train with it using a can.

Yep that's nasty stuff

As far as the 5.7's go are the PSA's legit?
The PSA Rock 5.7 is surprisingly decent. I owned one for a minute. It’s not as soft as the M&P 5.7, nor is the trigger as good. Also, there are quite a few more reliability complaints/issues floating around the interweb on that one. But overall decent for price point.

The M&P 5.7 is the king of 5.7. I personally think it’s the best striker fired, plastic framed pistol available.

Next up in 5.7 rankings would be the PSA Rock 5.7. The FN 57 and Ruger are way below in 3rd and 4th respectively.
