Just picked up a Remington 783 Varmint laminate in 6.5 CM and looking for die suggestions. Was thinking Forster or Redding. Or just stick with plain jane Hornady?
I like Hornady dies because you can buy a single micrometer bullet seat adjuster that works in all of their bullet seating dies. With many of the other die makers you have to buy a die specific micrometer seat adjuster.
I bought a Redding die set with a micrometer seating die for my .280AI because the Hornady dies were not available. I like the Redding dies but they are not any better than my Hornady die sets.
I like the Lee collet dies for neck sizing and Forster neck bump and Micrometer seating dies.. The Lee collet dies have given me exceptionally consistent neck tension (after proper setup) and concentricity.. Its easy to adjust for variances in neck wall thickness in your brass.. All the best and good luck with whatever you choose..
How much do you want to spend? A Lee Ultimate 4-Die Set will work well, and is priced extremely well. Polish the inside of the sizing die and you're set. No need to spend extra buying the Lee Factory Crimp die like I would with a Hornady, RCBS, etc set.
I reload 6.5 CM for my brother-in-law using RCBS dies and they work just fine, but I do prefer a Lee Factory Crimp die for the crimping.
Some of the nicest sizing dies I have used in terms of internal finish are from Mighty Armory. Lyman also makes a really nice set of stainless steel dies, the Lyman Pro Die Pack. I have a set for my .223, and if I were using a progressive for 6.5 CM, I would probably buy another set.
