Decent Bellingham, Wa hotel for Wife and I

Hoping to get some suggestions from fellow Roksliders that are familiar with the area. I'm going to visit my Brother that is in an assisted living home in Bellingham, Wa in the area of E. Sunset and I-5 (actually closer to Squalicum High School). Can anyone recommend a decent Hotel in that vicinity? Wife and I will be there visiting for three or four days, so I would like some place decent, not in a warzone if possible. Thanks for any suggestions. PM if you would rather than posting. I would even consider driving (rental car) a moderate distance if necessary.

Stayed here for a week a little while ago.
Wingate Heritage Inn, 151 McLeod Rd, Bellingham, WA 98226
It was nicer than any other place I usually stay.
Not walking distance to Squalicum HS, same side of the city though.
Couldn't say whether its surrounded by a slum.

I bet there's an abnb closer.

Hotel Bellwether is fancier and farther away. Down by the marinas.

Haven't been up there for a while. Stayed close to i5 with my wife for work a couple years ago and it was methhead central. Can't remember the name of the Hotel.

When traveling around WA the tribal casinos are usually my go to. I don't gamble, but the hotels are usually really clean.

We are casino people, plenty here in Louisiana and next door in Mississippi. Never thought about a casino in Washington-will have to check it out, Thanks.

I've always had good experiences at the Springhill Suites, which is less than five miles (and ten minutes) away from the High School you named. I have overnight stays booked there for March and April as well.

Not a whole lot in the sunset area.

Hotel Bellwether is nice on the upper end by the water, or the chrysalis inn.

Spring Hill suites on northwest rd, you can get to squalicum high school area by driving from there east on bakerview rd. you’ll be there in 10ish minutes.

Second vote for the Bellwether. Right on the bay and best in B'ham. Spendy though
