I am looking for a new day pack for archery hunts. I am looking for something that allows you to strap the bow to your pack but puts the bottom cam at the same level or high that the bottom of the pack. I don't want it to hang below the bottom of the pack as I use my horse to get in and out of my hunting areas and with the pack I currently have the bottom cam hits the saddle skirt.

I was suggested the vanguard 1600 RT or 975 RT? Yay or nay?

Any insight is appreciated.

Exo mountain gear is coming out with an 1800 k3... I’ve been eyeing it for a day pack. Not sure on what they offer for a bow set up though!

The Kifaru Shape Charge and 14’r packs have a loop at the bottom of the pack that you could put your bottom cam in and then just add a retention strap to secure the bow up higher. OR, add a Grab It and use that to hold the bottom cam. That’s probably the route I’d go because you could gat the bow to ride higher. That way, even if you had a heavy jacket on top of your rain slicker, you’re not going to get any contact with your bow on whatever you have strapped on the back of your saddle. JMO

I run a Kifaru Woodsman (3400cu.in.) with snow collar closed. It has a loop at the bottom that bow cam cradles in nicely. Mine sits on the 26” frame so there is some space between bottom of bag and lumbar pad on frame. Just a thought. Good luck.

Depends on how much you want to carry in your pack and how much you want to spend but here are a few options:

Eberlestock x2 (and a few others)
Horn hunter mainbeam
Alps pathfinder
mystery packs
Kifaru

Really any pack that has horizontal compression straps will allow you to adjust the placement of your bow against the pack.

It’s the piece in coyote on my pack. It works great to hold a bow on a pack as well as using it to hold a jacket that you are taking on and off often rather than having to open the pack. It can even carry a 1/4.

The new exo 1800 that goes on sale Monday looks pretty sweet for a run and gun archery setup. They have a weapons carrier accessory that can protect the cam but you can just use the compression straps to position the bow wherever you want.

You criteria is pretty open . I think you have many options and recommend simply looking for any day pack that has a mid to higher placed horizontal buckle. A mid 2000s military issue camelback HAWG should work due to the MOLLE and buckles that can go horizontal at mid height ( buckles are on both flanks but can cinch across the back also) . Just mess around with how you wanna carry your bow ( i.e. horizontal or vertical) and it should all come together pretty easy. Ive packed many miles with my bow ( compound) simply buckled in the way I figured it out in 5 minutes before I left depending on what pack I was using and never had my bow damaged or sight put off center. I believe people think way too much about it. My 2 cents.

I'm going to try the new kifaru Stryker for whitetail. The cargo panel design should be perfect for carrying climbing sticks, a stand or your bow. Would keep the bow up high and protect it well.

Almost any pack with a couple horizontal compression straps will allow you to position your bow as needed. I have some Kifarus and Exo and all of them would allow that

I have an Exo 2000 that is an awesome day pack. The new 1800 looks very nice as well. I also have a Kifaru that I strap my bow to. You really can go wrong with either system.

I can get that this evening in picture format and post it on this thread. The ILBE lid is more than 2x the size of the SG lid and takes adaption via buckles/straps.

I have been really happy with the kifaru 22mag. It's got plenty of room and I like the size for overnight trips. I will more than likely be purchasing the 44 mag for 4-7 day trips.

Due to the potential safety issues of wearing a bow while riding, I would recommend a padded bow scabbard. Look up RawHide Gear out of LaPine, OR. I know you probably have Fantastic horses. Me, too. But things can still happen.
This scabbard, and their gun scabbard, puts it in the right place on the horse.

I am down to running my Exo 4800 for everything, day hunt to outback. They cinch down to nothing in seconds. No moving stuff around. Constant routine with everything always in the same place means easy access under stress.

Their bow hanger is $20, sits as high/low as you want, and works well for rifle too.
