I have an opportunity to pick up either one of these rifles for the same price (with $15). I like both of them and both have some unique features. I love the trigger on the alpha I shot, but not sure on the negatives I have seen on that stock’s forend. The new Savage looks like it has a lot to offer but there is a lot going with that stock with all the adjustments. Not sure if that is a benefit or just over complicating a dedicated hunting rig. What are everyone’s thoughts?

CZ 600 Alpha. Cut off some of the fore end and apply JB Weld into the partitioned bottom of the fore end. The 600 has been solid for me, very accurate.

When I read stuff like this I automatically reject the Savage option then ask myself if I'd buy the CZ.

The CZ does intrigue me. I'm what you call a 'late adopter' though and I haven't read enough to make me really excited about them yet.

Why reject the savage option. I have had several that shot sub MOA and the new stock design should make it even more comfortable.

The receiver is long and heavy and a bit crude in both design and execution. Also, at this point, I have pretty much came to believe that any action with any sort of internal scope mounting rail or attachment design, is superior to simply screwing something to the top.

Whether they shoot well or not, is a separate issue, but I don't think I'm the only person that simply overlooks them for the reasons I've stated. I own one Savage rifle and it has worked well. I'll freely concede that the points I refer to don't tell the whole story of the Savage action and I'm sure someone else will (needlessly) defend them based on other advantages they might have. But you asked 'why' and that's my answer.

Have cut off all five I've had first thing out of the box. How much cut off was dependent on receiver size, mini or medium models in my case. Length cut varied according to what looked appropriate, extremely ugly stock due to length with too much flex. Made cut to have a partition at the end of fore end and attached a piece of Yew wood to dress up the end.
Examples of how much cut off are in the attached pic, two remnants lay on the table above stock.
