I'm surprised to see the top of the action cut out; but I've never messed with a Tikka further than screwing a different barrel on. Is it common practice to cut the top out on Tikkas? I always thought the closed top was one of the features of a Tikka set up that made them so reliable.

It’s for lowering weight and that’s really it. I guess it could allow more snow/rain/debris into the action but the scope cover I use provides additional coverage for all of that, so not something I’m concerned with.

Rifle doesn’t seem to care much for the factory Hornady 175 eld-x. This is shots 40-50 on the 7PRC, about 1.6” at 100 yards. Waiting for ammo on the 6.5-284 to see what it’ll do.

Plan to try the 180 eld-m match grade hornady load next. I’ve still got a good bit of factory ammo to shoot for breaking it in before I start reloading.

I think the gun might really like 180 eldms. These six together would be sub .5”. First three were fired then dialed up .5 mil for the second three.

Killed a great bull with the 7PRC at 414 yards. Had the 6.5-284 Norma on the hunt as a backup rifle as well in case of a horse wrecking the PRC. Need to shoot them both now that I’m home to ensure everything is still on, but the rifle did its job.

Yes, one shot drop. Entered at the top of the rib cage and exited mid body on the offside. Steep angle. I think LOS distance was 465 vs horizontal of 414.
