It’s for lowering weight and that’s really it. I guess it could allow more snow/rain/debris into the action but the scope cover I use provides additional coverage for all of that, so not something I’m concerned with.I'm surprised to see the top of the action cut out; but I've never messed with a Tikka further than screwing a different barrel on. Is it common practice to cut the top out on Tikkas? I always thought the closed top was one of the features of a Tikka set up that made them so reliable.
