Here’s my Sheep setup
Tikka 280ai in a Wildcat stock
Microcell recoil pad
MTNGear titanium bolt handle
Lumley Titanium lug
Fluted bolt
Talley Rings
Z5 Swaro
Did you do the paint job? Im looking at getting a wildcat made for my tikka project. Im going lightweight 6.5x55, no sling studs, barrel chopped to 20" and threaded with cap, no scope either- necg ghostring. Trying to plan and budget for the wildcat stock. Cant decide if I should paint it or get corlanes to.

Paint it yourself. It's not a difficult thing to do so long as you pay attention to properly cleaning and sanding the stock as you apply each additional layer of paint.

Wanted to update this thread. I'm still waiting on my rifles from the smith. To say I'm pissed at this point is an understatement, but when the guy lives 16 hours away, there's not much I can do. Hopefully the wait will be worth it and I'll have them here in the next month or so.

Ya I’d paint it yourself, easy to do if you’re on a budget.

Misery loves company here, My rifle is stuck in purgatory indefinitely now because canada post is on strike, its 3 provinces away and no end date for this strike. Hopefully all turns out well. Super interested in your build.

WTF, going on 2 years now? What smith?

Dude thats crazy, I hope once theyre in hand you put them on blast!
It's frustrating. I wanted to support a guy that was local to me when I lived in CO, and I'm having to deal with the delay associated with it I guess. I could have sent them to Kampfeld and had them done in a matter of days it seems. Hopefully they are as accurate as all his other customs when I get them, if not, then there will be some hell to raise for sure.

Well, to update, got a text from the smith yesterday, and he cerakoted my rifles the wrong color. He's going to get them recoated, and then hopefully I'll have them in hand within the next couple weeks. Seems to always be something with this guy.

Hard to find good gun smiths. Trying out a new one myself after not being overly thrilled with the last one. One before that retired from it in his 80's. He was awesome.

If you don't mind sharing in PM, I'd like to know who to avoid in CO for a build I'm looking to get going in the near future. Thanks!

Smith has the 6.5-284 completed. 7PRC is having to be recoated after an engraving mistake. Rifle is 7 exactly on his scale and the PRC should be the same. I asked him to leave the stocks as they were so I could paint them as I like. Will post completed pics when they are done.

Did you get another screw hole milled in the front of the action for the front ring? Looks like you likely lost the rear-most hole with the porting?

I have one locally to me who is in His 80’s setup in his garage and is great to work with, stays current. I’ll be bummed when he’s done.

Rifles are in hand. With scope, both rifles weigh exactly 7lbs. Currently working on the stocks with bondo and painting to get them finished and will post pictures once they are completed. Will also post targets.

I'm surprised to see the top of the action cut out; but I've never messed with a Tikka further than screwing a different barrel on. Is it common practice to cut the top out on Tikkas? I always thought the closed top was one of the features of a Tikka set up that made them so reliable.
