Haha until there’s a dependable mil scope that suits my fancy and with a reticle I actually like…. I’ll keep rolling the MOA 5-25 Tenmile. That’s a MIL 4-20 ATACR. But the reticle was shit for hunting. I killed like 15 animals with the MIL. It doesn’t make a difference to me in the field that I can tell.

I had a good buddy ask me to set him up with a decent priced setup for any big game hunting. I picked everything out for him and this is basically exactly what I would shoot myself if I wasn’t all caught up in the customs/wildcats.

It’s a Tikka T3X super varmint. 24” chambered in 6.5 PRC. I like the slightly heavier barrel and platform altogether. The stock seems just enough of an upgrade over the super light stocks to make it worth it IMO.

I’ll be shooting it a good amount in the coming days.

Update. This gun shot fantastic with factory 147 ELDM’s. My buddy was elated with it. Running average of 2850fps out of 24” barrel.

The factory hornady ammo has a really tight chambering round every so often though. Headspace on the barrel is either on the short end, or their brass is just super inconsistent. I know which one is probably true lol. If I hand loaded for this gun with good ammo and got consistent brass sizing to rid the hard bolt close issues it’d be lights out.

Both me and my buddy who the rifle was for are extremely happy with the budget conscious build. He has much more rifle shooting confidence now.

Is the scope rail on the Tikka T3X super varmint machined in or is it a separate piece that tikka includes in the box? I looked on the website and it just says 0 MOA rail included. Very nice setup!

It is installed at the factory. It is not machined in though. It’s an “aftermarket” 0 MOA rail. But they did an excellent job installing it and everything was loctited and torqued down right from the factory.

They’re really nice. Also really expensive and probably unnecessary. I just like nice shooting/hunting things, to my detriment haha.

One noticeable thing about them is the pin and sleeve that keep the top ring from constantly wanting to rotate your scope out of level as you tighten it.

Other than that, they accomplish the same goal of many other rings that are much cheaper. But I do appreciate their machining quality.

I just simply like shooting bullets fast. No real reasoning behind it other than that. It initially started because I thought I NEEDED to be able to kill animals at 1200 yards. Turns out, that’s actually insanely difficult and not the most realistic goal. But in the meantime of that endeavor, I grew fond of the bigger for caliber cartridges and shooting heavier for caliber bullets, fast.

It of course helps with range forgiveness and the speed on impact normally makes massive wound channels. But not really all that necessary.

The 7-300 for sure. Theres lots of good bullet/powder combinations to get stupid good performance at long range. The cartridge and maintenance is a lot of work though. 300 Norma Improved is probably a better option all around.

Not a bad line up - It's no RSS Tikka, but I guess they will do! haha

Thank you! I’m hoping for a good season as well. I’ve been scouting a ton, and things are looking good. But scouting, and killing during season are very much different hahaha
