Newest build is a 6 PRC. I did this one on a Chassis so I could shorten it for when my daughter starts hunting.

Custom Action design by my gunsmith and machined my Defiance
Brux #5 1-8 twist finished at 23.5”
Bedded into some cheap MDT chassis I picked out
Bix N Andy trigger
Trijicon Tenmile 5-25X50 FFP

Good one. She better start in 6 months before this one gets replaced :ROFLMAO:
Hahaha isn’t that the truth 🤣🤣

Yes it’s the MOA one. I just switched back to MOA since all my buddy’s still shoot it and it doesn’t make any difference to me honestly.

Yeah sure! So the main action he designed was the long action Lapua. Bigger tenon, bigger lugs, longer COAL, full length rail with a tapered front lug for mounting shorter scopes and the rail is machined out in the center to lighten it, a few other lightening points and a different bolt handle. 1/2 the fluting the depth on the bolt as the Anti-X so it runs smoother.

This SA has the same features, but is internally identical to the Ruckus I believe. He just wanted the actions to match.

I have a short action Vesper as well, and running them side by side is night and day with feeding and bolt cocking. Vesper is going down the road.

Oh cool!! I really like that area. He’s only an hour away from me, so it’s pretty dang convenient!
Never knew of him else I might have used him back when I lived there. I left that state behind now though and glad about it.

First off, that is an impressive collection of rifles in a short time and it looks like you put them to use on some great animals!
Secondly, what the heck do you do for a living?
And how do you get that many hunting opportunities in one year? I’m envious on just that alone. The rifles are awesome but the quality of animals is just plain amazing.

Almost all of the animals are just from general draw tags or genuine OTC tags. Just rotate through states wherever I can get a tag pretty much haha.

Well that’s really awesome. You’re definitely making the most of it. Those all look like quality animals, which I know takes some real effort in OTC or general hunts. Out of state takes even more effort.

Steve, when setting these rifles up, what are you expecting your total cost to be on the gun to be “hunt ready”? And what’s been your cheapest build and most expensive?

It’s been a great hunting journey for sure! Now I’m focusing on filling less tags, but with better animals 🙌🏼.

They’ve all been $5-6k for the full builds. Non-adjustable stock and steel barrel will save some money.

Most expensive was that TS customs 6.5 PRC with DLC coated TI action and carbon barrel. It was right at or maybe even a hair more than $6k.

Cheapest was my current 22 CM. Cheap Chassis, cheap barrel. No muzzle threads and solid black paint. Idk what it ended up costing but maybe $4000 or so I think.

But what it really comes down to though, is the cost of the components you choose. Then it’s like $12-1500 in smith work and paint on top of that.

And then of course scopes range from $1000-$5000 hahaha.

Travis Stevens does a nice job building rifles and chambering barrels. A couple of years ago I had him build my 6.5PRC (ironically the same as Steve's but a 22" barrel) for me before I started putting my own rifles together. One of which he chamber the barrel for. Highly recommended.
