I just acquired what appears to be a custom Mauser in 22-250. I am trying to identify the "L" with a crown above it and can't find any mention of H. Schoultz anywhere. If anyone can shed some light. I'd appreciate it.
Could it simply be the owners name? My grandfather had an old browning A5 from Germany taken during the war that had 2 names stamped in it. They were not related to the building of the gun as it was not known to be custom. . .
The L and crown is the mark of King Leopold of Belgium. You have an FN Mauser, if should say: FAB. NAT. D'ARMES de GUERRE, HERSTAL - BELGIQUE on the left side of the receiver and will have a 'thumb' cut on the left side.
I have seen another rifle with H Schuoltz on it - also a Mauser, but a German one. He was very likely one of the many guys who builtt semi-custom rifles off of ex-military Mauser actions
