CRAZY GOOD SAUER 100 SALE! - EUROOPTIC - AS LOW AS $499.99

I have been looking at a Tikka for a lightweight build. Reading through this thread, it seems like mods are very limited on the Sauer and not really an option for a lightweight build. The price and reviews are intriguing so just curios if anyone has done a custom build with the Sauer and what is the weight.

What do you mean by “lightweight”?

My wooden stocked Sauers are really quite lightweight, by my standards. The 6.5 was 9# with ZG 6.5, Trijicon AccuPoint 3-9x40, and leather sling. The only modification I made to it was to have it threaded. I left the barrel at 22”.

7.5# or less is the goal.

I'll post the results when they come in and i get a chance to shoot (it may be a few weeks)

@BigCountry376 and anyone else curious about 308

Frankly, I'm unimpressed with these groups. 1.5" target dots
I'm going to bed this stock, and shoot these again so see if that helps with some of the 'scatter'. Vertical stringing may be from shooting thru some mirage, barrel was warm or hot for the tail end of every group, mirage was notable at times. I have also had some past issues with vertical stringing with this rifle...may be me and my shooting form, especially rear bag technique.

Black Hills 155 TMK is not great in this gun. Im gonna pull and load the remaining bullets over Varget and see what happens.
Hornady Black 155 AMAX and Federal 150 Powershock were so-so, I'm hoping bedding tightens this up.
FGMM 168 SMK - I expected more from this one especially, if this stuff shoots the same after bedding (and with better shooting technique), this rifle may take a back seat or go down the road.
ETA-I wrote '168 TMK' on the target, these are 168 SMKs.
168 ELDM handloads - currently my baseline for this rifle, horizontal dispersion is in line with past shooting, vertical is not. This was the first group shot, mirage was the least with this group. This group really makes me consider my shooting technique, especially with the rear bag.

100 yards, shot off bench, Mollinator front bag, cheap Midway rear bag. Athlon chrono

@Sponge sorry if I missed this but which specific Sauer 308 is that?

Apologies, I did not include that info.

Wood stock, blued barreled action and unthreaded barrel. SWFA 3-9 on EGW rail*, 2022 production date on receiver. LOP shortened to 13.75" and limbsaver grind to fit pad added.

*I also plan to bond the rail to the action, havent done this yet...still undecided if I will keep the rail, or go to two piece bases for a lower scope height.

Disappointing groups for sure, but it seems you're not really certain if it's you or the rifle? I definitely have that problem with unsuppressed 30 cals. With a suppressor I'm generally good to go and a suppressed smaller bore nowadays I know for damn sure if it's me or the gun. I've been on the fence about getting that 308 XT Pantera. My 6.5 creedmoor is one of the most accurate rifles I own. It's a legitimate 10 shot 1moa rifle with no modifications at all. Keep us posted. And I would like to hear other people's results with their 308.

I don't know how to ask this, so I apologize if I botch it.

On the Federal Powershot results, it looks like you shot 3 nice groups but they were not on top of each other.

Alternatively, you could have shot 4 separate groups of three where all the first shots landed as group 1, the 2nd shots formed group 2, and the 3rd shots landed on top of each other.

I get what you mean, and I'd love to say it is three separate groups, but it is not. It was a single 10 shot group using the center of the top right dot as the aiming point; I loaded two 5 round mags and shot them back to back. To me, that one in particular points to a bedding issue, but I don't rule myself out either.

That rail might be the weak link. At least a few years ago they had very little metal for the screw heads to actually hold down on.

correct

no suppressed shooting for me yet, but I can regularly print nice round 1-ish moa 10 shot groups with my 16" Tikka 223, and 1.5-ish groups with an AR SPR build. If i couldn't do that, I'd point more towards myself to begin with.
Keep us posted
will do, my idea for this rifle is to cut and thread at 18" and suppress ... and the pipe dream is to find a 155 TMK load that gets close to quick drop out to 500 yards at about 2000 ft DA.

yeahhh, not liking the wear pattern on the action where it contacts the stock/bed block thing. Its getting bedded pronto.

@ResearchinStuff thanks for the rail heads up. I had ordered the Burris Xtreme tactical two pieces bases too, ill probably switch to those and order some nightforce rings too.
