I just got back from a 8 day sheep hunt in Northern BC and looking for opinions on these 2 chairs. I'll state that I do have some lower back issues which is leading me to now want a chair with back support. On this last hunt I just took my regular old Thermarest Z pad cut down and tried leaning against my pack/rock etc but found that after an hour or 2 behind glass my lower back was taking a beating and it would really distract from my ability to glass effectively.

I think the Crazy Creek chair would meet my needs as I want something that goes directly on the ground but offers support. I've read all the forum responses I can and it seems that lots really like the chair. I'll also state that I have a Helinox chair but find it difficult to use on uneven or soft ground.

The biggest question I have for anyone that uses one is whether the long back version is worth the extra weight and pack size. I am 6'2" which they say should use the long back version however it is an extra 3.2oz and and additional 5.5inches longer to pack. I think I would prefer the smaller chair but thought I'd ask for advice.

Thanks for any opinions,

I went a slightly different route. I use the CC power lounger. I did it for a couple reasons...first I can deploy it like the regular CC but it will have twice the pad under my butt. Second it can double as ground protection for my sleep pad.

It is heavier than those 2. If it were me I would go for the minimal weight penalty, extra room, and the slightly more versatility the long back offers.

Yes they are worth the weight. You can sit anywhere and have back support. They also block a little wind. I have used mine to shield my stove on occasion as well.

YMMV...

I have the original and love it. Unfortunately, I do not have experience with the long back. With minimal extra weight it might be worthwhile. Order an original, try it out with tags on, and if not big enough just exchange for the long back.
