I dont think that's how it works you apply for a tag 50 percent go to the highest point holders then the other go to to a bonus point draw with everyone who applied in the draw unless I am mistaken you don't choose one or the other.

Bonus point systems suck as much as preference point systems
I get that, but I don’t care if I hunt Colorado every year so I’ll apply for units with the hope a drawing a great tag first. Units I’ve never had a chance of drawing. I’m assuming there are a lot of guys like me out there.

Please explain what this means. I've read the PowerPoint but this doesn't make sense to me. Thanks!
If you check that box when you apply for a unit you get put on a list/in line for the tag if you dont draw. If someone who did draw turns it in, it will be made available to the next person who is in line. It will go down the line based on highest points. If you get the call you can take the tag and use your points. If no one takes the tag it goes to the list.

They all said, "we talk to so many sportsmen". Where is this talking happening!?

It isn't from reading their EngageCPW website. lol

90% of the commission didn't know that even existed.

I about $hit when that black lady said she felt that the commission needed more public outreach on the matter.

Haskett said "Well there has been 4 months of outreach..." lol

Gotcha, so instead of going to the secondary draw that tag would go to the next in line. Thanks!

Talk about a waste of resources. They’re going to call on hundreds of tags, many of which are 2nd and 3rd choice. What a hunter thinks is a good idea in April, won’t be in September and they’ll go through the list of people. Think about how many tags were on the turnback list. Literally hours upon hours.

I wrote incorrectly, the point of checking auto reissue is to skip the calling step.

But it says that you still have the opportunity to decline before being reissued the tag. If I’m reading it correctly.

Does this take effect 2028?

Seems like it could be automated? Who knows? Maybe that’s what the bump in PP will go towards? Paying phone callers, oh and trying to scrape money to reimburse ranchers, pay for “woof riders” and buy more woods or wolverines or something. I’ll disagree I don’t hate that concept. I have my units that I like and want to hunt doesn’t matter (pending maybe a giant wildfire) what’s going on I want to hunt that tag

You would need to call and opt out of auto reissue before you are issued the tag.

Im sure there will be lots who forget who will see a tag show up in the mail and or an email.

I used to feel the same way. I’ve hunted a different unit for deer and elk almost every year for the last 5 years. It’s become part of the fun of it.

That would suck, because if it’s less than 30 days by the time you realize it then you’re stuck with it. More complaining…

Back to my original question, is this all starting in 2028?

I get it, back when I could hunt 20+ days of Sept otc was wonderful because if I wasn’t feeling an area I would pull up stakes and drive 4 hours and have a completely new adventure. Exploring new ground is fun

I’ve been kinda busy to really dig into the specifics but does anyone know if the Qualifying License will still be in effect in 2028?
Since you have to pay for a PP on the 2nd Choice?
