The 50/50 split is for all animals? Antelope, deer, elk?

EXAMPLE…
Unit 10
10 tags available
-5 tags to top 5 preference point holders
-5 tags to random…hunters name in the hat based off number of preference points, meaning Joe blow has 10 preference points so he has name the hat 10 times?

Is that correct?

I think I read somewhere that the Hybrid Draw is going away with the new process.

Anyone confirm?

Yes, bottom bullet point. Pulled from document below

Deer, Elk, Bear, Pronghorn, and *Turkey
a. Primary Draw Methods (*Applies to both the spring and fall limited turkey
draws)
i. Draw Type - Split Draw
● A split draw methodology will be used in the Primary Draw for all
deer, elk, bear, pronghorn, and turkey licenses. The quota for
each hunt code will be divided 50/50, with half of the quota
going to a preference point draw, and half going to a bonus draw
(*see Appendix A for descriptions of draw types). If the quota
cannot be evenly split, the extra license will go to the
preference point draw.
The previous hybrid draw is removed and replaced with the
above split draw methodology

Snagged this from another platform

Some Colorado CPW Commission decisions today. Starting in 2028 the big game tag allocations will now apply to the 1st choice and 2nd choice of the primary draw. However, they left the fake/soft cap in place for the 3rd and 4th choices. Split Draw Type 50/50 also passed. They also passed a preference point fee after 1st choice --$15 for residents / $30 for nonresidents.
Can anyone explain what this really means/changes like you’re taking to an eight year old?

50/50 split is great especially for the younger generations. The hybrid draw addressed the issue but was a very minor correction. Now it actually makes sense to apply for units that previously would have been impossible to draw for newbies.

Yep they basically expanded the hybrid draw 10x. I now have a chance at getting a top tag, where before I had almost no chance.

This will sting for those with 20+ points though.

@NickyD - The 20+ person may actually benefit from this hybrid split draw. Take a unit that took 28 points a hunter with 20 now has a chance to draw vs waiting another 8-16 years to catch up with point creep. The split draw means higher point holders have 2 shots at a tag. The preference point part of draw functions like the previous system where the tags are assigned highest point to lowest until the tags are gone for 1/2 the quota. Then the radom draw part of the allocation kicks in where an applicant gets 1 plus the number of points they have random chances at a tag.
