Snagged this from another platform

Some Colorado CPW Commission decisions today. Starting in 2028 the big game tag allocations will now apply to the 1st choice and 2nd choice of the primary draw. However, they left the fake/soft cap in place for the 3rd and 4th choices. Split Draw Type 50/50 also passed. They also passed a preference point fee after 1st choice --$15 for residents / $30 for nonresidents.

I’m seeing this on another forum:

75/25 allocations Split for Primary Draw for 1st and 2nd choice only for all hunt codes. Removes the High Demand 80/20 currently.

- Points are only used on 1st choice for primary draw and new Auto Reissue process. Basically status quo

- Points are going to cost $15 resident $30 NR points fee per species with an opt in/opt out option

- Pick 1 of 3 for Moose/Goat/Sheep was rejected. Status Quo

-50/50 Preference/Bonus draw is passed

-Secondary Draw 100% Random, 100% Youth Preference, No preference points used Status Quo

-MGS is 100% Bonus draw passes, removes weighted preference

- 3 year waiting period for Antlered Moose, Sheep and ES goat

-No waiting period for Cow Moose or Ewe

-Bighorn Rams and Goat are now Once and a Lifetime Harvest

None of this takes affect till 2028

In my mind I can’t think why 50/50 will do anything but intensify point creep. It will absolutely draw enormous amounts of folks to apply for tags they likely wouldn’t draw but now we will get potentially 50% less people through the system… which sucks but it is reliable and somewhat fair…

The same number of people will go through the system using up their points. It will draw some people to the most popular tags as they will now have a chance which will actually open up more opportunities for people that just want to hunt and apply for the lesser units.

Yeah, it will just make the distribution across units/hunts more rigid

I think the next 3 years, high point holders (me included) will be burning points before the preference pool tags get cut in half. Also before the point fees are instituted.

But this will cut the number of max point holders getting drawn every year in the pref draw by half. Some number of them will then draw in the bonus. But it will increase creep at the top. Don’t you think?

Yes, you will see more people at the top. I'm fine with that. I'm not competing for tags with them.

It wasn’t 100% clear to me, sounds like they also approved the automatic reissue?

Does anyone have clarity of the math behind the bonus point? Basically # of points equals number of times your name goes into the draw? No squared or cubed?
