Could a carbon fiber wrapped barrel reduce your chance of getting hit by lightning?

Or should I just wrap my entire barrel in electrical tape? Honest question though. One of my favorite hunting spots almost never has any weather but over the ridge often sounds like a bombing range.

For all practical purposes, there is no meaningful difference in the chance of being hit by lightning while holding a carbon rod versus a steel rod. The conductivity of the rod is a minor factor in the final path of a lightning strike. The dominant factors are height, shape, and isolation.
Why conductivity is not the deciding factor
Lightning is an electrical discharge miles long, originating from a cloud tens of thousands of feet high. The final path of the leader stroke to the ground is determined by which object or point on the ground first sends up a positive electrical discharge to connect with it.
While steel is a far superior electrical conductor than carbon fiber, this difference is insignificant compared to the properties of the air and the sheer magnitude of the lightning bolt. Both carbon and steel are far more conductive than a person and will increase the overall chance of being struck compared to having no rod at all, but the difference between the two is negligible

Dang. I'm worried because I'mpretty sure I already used up my nine lives one of my favorite things used to be swimming during a hot thunderstorm.

Worry about were you place yourself and the weather, not your gear. The strike can hit wet ground near you and get you through the ground. This is why even laying down in the open isn't great.

This is like talking about the color you wear helping you not get hit by a train. Just stay off the the tracks.

Fun side story, I've been outside within 40 feet of a lightening strike back in 2009. I had just pulled up to my parents house on leave and said "will you marry me" to my now wife. Neither of is noticed, my parents pointed it out and the tree it hit died. Came close to being a very short engagement.

besides the ol googlenator, I know when Im fishing and Im holding a carbon reel, carbon rod, and I feel a tingling in my rod (not that one) lol and the line starts buzzing, its time to go.

I once cast a lure from a carbon rod of course and that thing hovered in the air line a drone, I threw the rod down until the lure dropped, reeled it in and headed to the steak house!

Lightening doesn't "strike" straight up and down. It's an electric discharge that has a random path.

You can't predict it, but you can over think it...
