Coues Whitetail Hunting Forum

Coues whitetail hunters already have a pretty active dedicated forum over at coueswhitetail.com, but I do think having a dedicated Coues thread here on Rokslide could be really valuable and cut down on some of the back-and-forth.

I haven’t been on there in ages but it used to be a bit of a dumpster fire for some things.

I think it would be nice to have one, and or a sub form. Coue deer have a lot of similarities to eastern whitetail but differ a lot in the terrain and how they are generally hunted. I think it would be cool to have a spot to have inquiring minds with similar interests to interact on this form.

Haha I used to be more active on there when I lived in AZ and routinely hunted coues but if anything, I’m pretty sure the dumpster fires have only gotten worse.

Personally Id rather not see further forum splits, I think it would be a real shame to lose the variety of hunting techniques and habitats across the species range. I mean…there’s Rocky Mtn, Roosevelt and Thule elk subspecies and they get hunted in everything from rainforest jungle to high desert sage flats…but only one elk forum. I dont really see whitetails being any different. There is just as much difference between the stereotypical midwest managed whitetail hunting, versus foot hunting a million+-acre Wilderness in northern new england, versus palmetto jungles in florida, vs thorny scrub in south texas, as there is between hunting river bottoms in idaho or south dakota versus coues deer in arizona. If there is any lack of coues deer posts or “community” around that its only for lack of posting by folks who are so inclined. Ive never hunted coues deer but love the terrain and places they live, and I very much look forward to coues posts here and would love to hunt them someday. Not sure what is stopping anyone from posting or looking into coues deer here at the moment?

Here’s the thing, you’re not losing a variety of hunting techniques across a species range. It would just be under a separate subforum. And I’m also suggesting it because a lot of coues hunting stuff has nothing to do with the rest of the whitetail hunting stuff. Do they both have whitetails? Yep, and that’s about where the similarities end. I’m being a little sarcastic but when you go to the RS whitetail page, you have to sort through so much stuff not related to them. I just scanned through a couple pages and here’s some examples.
Saddle recommendations, deer leases, protein pellets vs roasted soybeans, more tree stand posts, 350 legend and 300 BLK questions. Most of this has nothing to do with Coues which is why I originally suggested it. It really is the equivalent to mule deer and blacktails having their own forums. And one could argue hunting blacktails is more similar to hunting whitetails in some parts of the country. Sure you can also say they all share similar hunting techniques so then why don’t we just have one deer forum on rokslide? I’m not actually proposing that but I think you get my point. And others are saying there a whole forum for coues whitetail. Yes there is but I’m simply saying, I think Rokslide is better and I prefer it. Just my .02
