It's not so much that corner crossing is legal but more that it isn't illegal. At least in the 10th circuit. Don't go being reckless thinking you can't get in trouble but if you are within the 10th circuits jurisdiction you have to be proven to have done more than touch someones air.

Nobody, not even the ultra wealthy, can exclude the public from accessing public land per the Unlawful Inclosures Act of 1885!

Support the excellent reporting of Wyofile. Angus Thuermer has handled this story so well.
This battle never would have happened if it wasn't for the leadership of the Wyoming BHA chapter. They convinced the Missouri Four to fight this rather than just pay the trespassing fine, and then proceeded to bankroll their legal fees.

Sorry if this is a dumb question.

Not sure what to call this and several flip throughs of state regulations and quick Google searches still have me wondering. The recent corner crossing ruling has me further interested.

Is it legal to shoot from public land over the top of private land to adjacent public? Assuming no houses/people etc in the way.

I’m newer to western hunting, had a late season doe tag and several bull elk presented themselves on adjacent public split by private and got me wondering.

Been some naysayers who believe this case will not set precedent, which is true if it doesn't go to a higher court outside Carbon County.

Looks like things may be changing.

Four hunters charged with trespassing in Carbon County seek a federal court where their case could resolve the legality of corner crossing to access 1.6 million acres of public land across the West.

Yes it's legalish.. but you better be damn sure of where the exact corner marker and the related property lines are located, none of the navigation apps available on your phone or gps are going to give you that precise of a resolution. Landowners will be watching and crossing an invisible line one foot to the left or right could still land you a trespassing charge.

Who knows if any corner marker is in the accurate and legal location. Landowners and gun clubs are notorius for claiming land that isn't theirs.....and I know that from experiences. If I was arrested for trespassing I would ask the courts to have the landowner prove it was his land.....not just a random iron pin in the ground that could be off by a lot. Show me a recent certified surveyors report.
