The topic was lead....
The topic was lead but the push for banning lead is because of the problems it causes with animals, particularly birds.

Hence, it's pretty hypocritical of those who propose measures like banning lead to push windmills (safe, green energy), which kill far more birds than lead ever will.

We won't get into solar farms and the scorched earth beneath them, which in my area are mostly put on mule deer wintering grounds.

I wasn't proposing wind mills.....energy is a completely different topic, BUT all energy production/extraction etc, if put in the wrong place, won't do any wildlife anygood. So large windmill projects is wintering grounds or migration corridors, probably needs a second look.....Clean energy is not a perfect solution, and has its pitfalls. Suspect we need both fossil fuels and clean energy, that when developed, limit climate impact, don't harm habitat, maintain a clean water supply, and don't limit/hamper public access to hunting and fishing......it's gonna take a Crap load of careful panning....hopefully as sportmans we can agree on habitat, access and maintaining herds/fish

We'd be better off if new commercial real estate, construction like malls/walmarts/home depot had to put solar on their roofs, rather than out on animal ranges.

Is the proposed ban only within the historic range of the condor?
No, I posed my question that way since I felt like it would get to the heart of what people here value. Sorry to confuse the issue. I believe the lawsuit was over a plan that covered all wildlife refuges
@taskswap linked some good articles here. Awesome.

I think I'm willing to have restrictions levied upon me to save a species. I know I'm not willing to have restrictions levied upon me to 'save' animals that are abundant.

The primary cause for the condors declining population was not lead, it was DDT.... same as bald eagles.

Since they got rid of DDT now lead is probably the biggest issue stopping them from recovering, but had very little to do with the original problem.

Just read up on that. It's wild that seemingly trace amounts would cause thinning egg shells and decimate a species. Thanks for sharing that.
