Coon Hunting

Jill was outside earlier today and heard a lot of Yotes howling in our back property. A few minutes ago Jill said to me that there was some weird sounds coming from the back property and made me come outside to listen. I came out and immediately knew what it was. Way off in the distance I heard Coon Dog with a distinct Howling of a treed Coon, so some hunters are having fun tonight hunting Coons!!!
I had friends up north in CT that would go Coon Hunting with their dogs. Its a lot of fun.

Brings back memories from when I was a teenager. Me and my brother had a lot of hounds we ran and trained. Even had a few win a few titles and championships when we were done training them and handed them over to the owner. Walkers, Blueticks, and Redbones are what we used and trained. Wish we would have trained some for lion and bear.

So miss that time when growing up in eastern CT. in the 60's. We had hounds, my cousins had them, and my dad's friends all had them. Duke a mountain cure was my favorite of ours. Remember getting loaded up in the back of a station wagon. I learned a lot as a kid about being in the woods, swamps and cornfields in the dark of night. How to get around and handle them dogs and a sack coon. I still have the 22 short Remmington gallery rifle. One night on a quick hunt, we got back to the station wagon put the dogs in the two coons, and my dad looked at my cousin and I and asked where the heck was the 22? I was supposed to care for it. It was leaning against that big ol oak tree where we treed them. It sucked going back in the woods to find that tree at night. Lots of stories...

Some of my fondest memories with my dad and grandpa were running our blue ticks and walkers. Bill, Whitey, and Buford. Made quite a bit of money as young preteen with hides.

I love any kind of hound hunting. Coon, rabbit, bear, lion. Nothing like the sound of a pack of hounds trailing or treeing.

i love running coons. I have a larger sized Mtn. Cur and he loves chaising coons and squirrels. He loves squirrels and hates coons(aka more aggressive on them)

My goal is to get him out a lot this year. He's 9 and has 3 seasons left in him. Maybe 4
