I’m taking my 5 year old son to the BWCA towards the end of June. Unfortunately, they just put a fire ban in place through the end of the month so cooking over a campfire is not an option. Hopefully it’s rescinded early but as for now I’m planning that it will be in place. I have an MSR Pocket Rocket and am curious how you guys have cooked fish on similar stoves (primarily bass and walleye). Thanks!

Not a pocket rocket, but I did some fish in a small msr skillet on a wind burner.

If I were you I’d pack some oil and a liquid fuel stove like an msr dragonfly along with a small skillet.

You’ll be fine with the pocket rocket and a lightweight skillet. You may have to cut the fish in pieces to fit.

Have you had a problem with the flame being too hot or concentrated? I’ve read that’s an issue. I just caught a few bluegills this morning, may have to give it a try on them.
