Conundrum!

There's lots of stuff to read here that'll help you make an informed decision. Don't buy that vx5 off Amazon simply because Amazon is a haven for counterfeit junk.

That’s interesting about an Amazon knock off. I have two already and both were genuine parts. Easy to confirm when you check the serial number on the bdc order form online.

I’m looking at buying a 6.5 Creedmoor when my 300 mag sells. I’m going to get a Tikka or Bergera. I will suppress it. Am I robbing myself with a 20” barrel?

I had my 6.5C cut and threaded to 18" and my .300WM to 20". Don't regret it at all. If I buy a new rifle it will be a 5.8lb Tikka T3X UL 6.5C that comes standard w a 20" threaded barrel. My 18" Tikka 6.5C has killed 5 elk and 6 or 7 mule deer at 300-400 yds with factory 143 ELDX ammo.

Well I have decided that I am going to buy a 6.5 CM for a fun long(ish) range only gun. Now I am working on the make and model. As noted before, I don’t need it for hunting so I will stop trying to make it a two trick pony. I almost bought a Bergara HMR then came across a lot of bad press. So leaning towards Tikka, in some sort of heavy barrel configuration. Maybe the Super varmint.

Well I’m completely locked in indecision. Lol. I have three rifles. All shoot well. .223, .243, 30-06. I’m thinking maybe I should invest in a “target style” scope for the .223 and experiment with that before spending upwards of $3000 on a whole new steel ringing setup with a 6.5 that I won’t use that much.

The .243 is an antique model 7 that I would want to thread for a suppressor, because I love suppressors. The .223 would be fine.

If I buy a decent scope now and proof the concept that I might actually go shooting occasionally I can always move it to a new build.

It's fun having a little extra cash to play with, isn't it? You are all over the board with your thoughts, but I'm with you.
The 06 shoots cloverleafs, but..... you've had it a long time, want to try something new. Stick with 06,, your trusted friend, for hunting.

Looking at 6.5 creed for playing, lots of ammo, cheap. I'm not a creed guy, but fun and cheap, yeah.

.223, you already have --- wow, spend extra cash on a great scope, maybe a true low light scope, learn the mils and drops. Fun, is that .223 to shoot, plus the gun is cheap, you already own it. Now, you could put it in a new stock if you like. Maybe drop in a new trigger for even more control. I like this over the 6.5 creed. Neither gun is going to help you shoot the .06 better, they have different drops, windage, etc. Now, if you drop the same trigger in both the .06 and the .223, you can work on trigger control.

You get me! lol.

While any gun listed here will kill an elk at 400 yards with good shot placement, shots are rarely perfect in the field when dealing with emotions, wind, angles, weather, etc. I would choose from the following guns with a supressor: 7 mag, 7 PRC, 300 WM. If recoil is not a huge issue the following guns, Suppressed, are also great choices: 300 PRC or 300 Ultra. A quality bullet 175-220 gr will get the job done. Shot placement is always #1 consideration, but when not perfect the larger bullet and kinetic energy down range will help with recovery.

If afraid of 300 magnum a 7 prc is not your answer. It is shooting the same weight bullets at similar velocity as 300 win factory loads and will kick the same. Get a 6.5 prc, or 6.5 cm or If want more power/bullet weight get a 6.8W or 280 ai. They shoots 165-175 same velcoity as a hot loaded 30-06 so kicks similarly but has much higher BC so loses less down range but does kick more than the 6.5 prc if recoil is a problem

Suppressed 7 PRC or 300 WM will keep the energy and bullet weight, without the recoil. I can’t stand to shoot my old 30-06 now that I have a suppressed 7 PRC. Lower recoil with a larger bullet and improved performance.

I agree that a smaller caliber could be better without a can.

It depends on weight. A braked/suppressed lighter rifle in bigger 7mag/300mag (ie 175/180 2900 fps+) still has violence to it. Done this several times. The OP said he did not like recoil of the 300 so dont think just suppressing something simlar is good idea, particularly if ends up with a lighter/shorter rifle set up to run suppressed. Agree a heavier rifle suppressed may be ok but OP should keep that in mind if recoil is issue

I saw the OP made a choice before posted;). Good luck!

Tikka ctr 6.5 creed in a krg bravo sounds like it would suit ya perfectly. Super varmint would also work at more weight.

53 grn superformance. Also shoots 50 grain federal hollow point fairly well.

The 53gr Superformance is a VMax. Your rifle is likely a 1:12 & there are a few bullets in the 60-65 gr size that will work. But from a ballistic coefficient perspective, the 53gr VMAX has a .290 which is better than some others that are heavier, to include the 55 and 60gr VMAX
