I can possibly trade some work for this sewing machine. They're asking $500 to sell it outright. Anybody have any advice on this machine? Thanks

Can’t rightly speak to what you might want to do with it but the Consew and all similar machines are one of the classic standy’s of the leatherwork world. Check leatherwork forums and videos if you want to know anything about it.

Most importantly, it’s a very popular machine. Tuning advice and parts will be everywhere.

I'd like to make some backpacks, saddles and maybe my own frame and shoulder straps someday. I've been using an old dressmaker to make some pull outs but I'd like to have a more hd machine.

do you know the model number? the consew 206rb is a great machine for the heavy duty stuff like making a frame or bag.

By the looks this appears to be a different model, unless it just has some attachments around the presser foot I don't recognize.

From the pic, it looks like it's a Model 332R. I'm not familiar with that machine...I have a 206RB (great machine!). I do notice that it has reverse, so that's good. Does it have 2 needles? Everything I'm reading seems to indicate it does (or should). Sorry I can't help any further.

That's a double needle, needle feed machine. You can set it up to use a single needle, but overall--especially considering the value the seller is putting on it--it will be a big compromise for what you're looking to do with it.

The lady said she has a walking foot attachment for it and that it can be used with 1 needle.
Or would I be better off to just wait and look for a single needle walking foot machine?

Personally, I would wait. It's a nice machine though (I wouldn't mind having one of those I my collection).

If you do decide to buy or work for it, plan on buying a gauge set for a more useful 1/4" or similar needle spacing. You will have to retime the hooks when you do that.

I think I'll just wait. Can get it for $450 if you're interested in it....

I picked up a double needle machine, wow it is a lot less forgiving than running a single needle machine. Definitely stick with a single needle to start.
