Heading out to Wyoming in a few weeks for a deer and antelope trip. Have been at the range the last two weekends shooting my 6mm CM and 300 Win to get ready for the trip. Last weekend spent most of the morning selecting ammo, getting zero at 200 then verifying drop at 500. The 6cm is a Seekins PH2 w/Mark 5HD 3.6-18, and was/is shooting lights out, 7.25MOA up at 500 and 3.25MOA up at 350. The 300 Win was also boringly accurate. It's a 700 I had a lilja barrel put on, with a Mark 5HD 5-25. Today checked zero again at 200, dead on. Then dialed 5.75MOA for 500 I was shooting last weekend, again just stacked shots in a 3-4 inch circle. After that figured I'd check drop at 350 to see if the I had the Hornady app dialed for that as well. I dialed 2.5MOA up and first shot was 7" high and 2" right, then the next three weren't even on the target. Dialed it back to 5.75MOA to go back to 500, again not even on the paper. Was wondering what was going on, so zeroed out the scope to check at 200, not even on target again... Making it worse we are shooing the huge targets in the pic below. The shots felt good but just to double check I grabbed my 6mm and rang the 7" gong at 500 3 times in a row.
So at this point I'm convinced something went haywire. Tried a different box of the same 300 win ammo (Barnes 165 TTSX), same results, shots are nowhere to be found.. I have this gun set up with a Leupold pick rail bedded to the action, ARC 35mm med rings and the previously mentioned Mark 5HD. I pulled the scope off the rail, checking the torque on the base screws - all good, checked the torque on the pic rail screws - again all good, and finally the torque on the rings - same thing. A quick look over the gun and everything seems perfectly fine and functioning as normal. Just seems to completely lost zero out of the blue, with the previous box or two of ammo shooting fantastic.
At this point I'm at a bit of a loss, other then the scope just crapping out, I can't think of anything that was cause things to go south so suddenly. Looking over the scope it seems like everything is functioning as it should and no new rattling etc that might indicate something broke internally. Anyone have any thoughts on what else I should check? Is there a simple way to test the scope? We were getting towards the end of the range session and my buddy needed to get back for his kids swimming lesson, so just set the gun aside and kept ringing steel with 6mm. Thankfully that gun is dialed in awesome and will be making the WY trip.
Thanks a ton for any help!
