Comparison: Asolo Hunter Extreme GV vs Lowa Tibet Hi GTX

Just in case anyone was curious how these two boots compare.

What is the same:

1. stiffness, both are stiff...I cannot flex the toe more than a couple of degrees with my hands
2. sole, both have vibram soles with good grip
3. insole, both have cheap flimsy insoles

What is different:

1. Lacing System, the Lowa is way better...the Asolo does not have "hooks" on the top portion, only eyes that have to be laced through meaning you cannot easily unlace the top which makes putting the boot on or taking it off a bit more work; it is also harder then to get your ankle/heel locked in with this system.
2. Full Rubber Rand, the Asolo is better on this one...its a bit higher and is tapered at the top so it should be less likely to catch on something and peel away
3. Fit, the Asolo toe box is narrower but doesn't feel like it's a lot narrower.
4. Height, obviously the Asolo is not as high....it is probably more comparable to the Tibet (not hi)

Your Asolos looked brand new a month ago so after a month of use how are they comparing to the Tibet’s? I’ve always wore the Asolo TPS but need something a little more stiff. I just bought some Hardscrabbles and they are just too wide for me and I’m looking into the Hunters. Thanks

I didn’t keep them. The lacing system was more trouble to me than it was worth.

I’ve got the gv’s, like em very much. Lacing system is different as the top has the hooks vs holes. Pretty stiff which I like and after replacing the insole, they are comfy out of the box.

I’ve bought the GVs but haven’t yet picked them up. I’m curious, what didn’t you like about the insoles?

Like most, insoles were very thin, too flat and provided no support. Not really a knock on the boot as I’ve experienced the same with Crispi, Scarpa, La Sportiva and my other Asolo’s. I Simply toss them and replace with superfeet.
If you’re looking for a stiff boot that is well designed and helps get up hills like a goat, you’ll enjoy the gv’s.

Curious to check in on how your liking your asolo's Natevon. The two models (hunder extreme and gv) on Sierra have caught my eye.

I got them right before our big horn hunt trip this year and they didn’t take much breaking in. Worked great on the trip and the lacing system is different but not a pain in the ass, I almost like it better than the traditional style now to be honest. I got the shorter version and am planning on getting another pair of the same or trying the taller ones bc their so inexpensive right now. They run a little narrow, which is good for my feet. As stated by others you will want to get some different insoles but for 200$ these are the real deal. Be careful what boot grease you use bc no matter if they’re Kenetreks or Asolos that Rand will start to delaminate if you use stuff with chemicals and that will break down the glue.
