I was just at Sportsman’s and bought a new elk reed to practice with. $10.99 on the rack. At the register the total came to $14 and change. I stated that seemed high and the guy stated that the new tax was on everything hunting related. I am no scholar but I don’t remember anything from the blue book stating the tax was for everything hunting related. I do remember firearms and accessories. Anyone in the know want to clarify? What is an accessory? Camping equipment, clothes, bikes, or anything else???

The bill itself states the tax is on “firearms, firearm precursor parts, or ammunition.”

More hunters probably should have got behind the 2A community I guess instead of all the in fighting. Order from out of state and it doesn't apply. I'm so done with this state....

FYI - the tax still applies as long as you’re shipping to CO. Have to drive to another state to avoid this.

I'm sure the big vendors and payment processors are quick, but wonder how long it'll take for the entire internet to start charging the extra taxes and modifying systems.

Pretty positive anyone who is not explicitly listing it out will just bake it into their pricing. I can’t imagine any competent business just eating 6.5%

That would add up quick. Everyone will get on board

I’ll look for it. Again, I dont remember the tax being on everything hunting related. How is that decided. What about the exemptions for first responders and military? How does that work out of state. Just seems like something was passed and then applied to other areas without cause.

Yep. Midway is already on it and it’s not adding up. I just got socked for 4.18 on some TSS that was 43.17
When I put other ammo in my cart it works out to 6.5% so I’m not sure how I paid almost 10%.

I don’t live in CO so will someone fill me in on what the 6.5% tax is earmarked for? Meaning is for PR match funds or something like the general fund?

the excise tax revenue to be spent for mental health services, including for military veterans and at-risk youth, school safety and gun violence prevention, and support services for victims of domestic violence and other violent crimes, and making an appropriation.

That works out to 27.xxx% tax. Are you sure the reed didn’t ring up for more than $10.99 at the register?

Why would first responders and military get a pass? Find stuff like this funny. I think something isn't mathing out on that receipt but without a pic, who knows.
Sounds like it’s active military& police that get a pass
