Colorado’s 6.5% tax. Is this for real??

Why would first responders and military get a pass? Find stuff like this funny. I think something isn't mathing out on that receipt but without a pic, who knows.
Military gets a tax pass often. They don’t get to choose where they live. Income tax, registration fees, use tax, etc. depends on the state but this isn’t uncommon.

First responders/police is a new one for me but why not.

Sounds like they’re implying cops and military are the only ones that actually need guns so they can unnecessarily tax everyone else. I’ve got no issue with giving military or police a break as they do a lot to keep the rest of us safe, but that is total BS.

If they need to have this tax then everyone should pay it. I don’t see them giving police a break on property taxes. That would give them more of a break than this. Police and military have the weapons and ammo provided that they need to do the job. This is just further pushing the liberal talking point that guns should only be for military and law enforcement.

I think your call had to ring up for more than $10.99.

To hypothetically put myself in the same boat, if I went to my local Scheels to buy this call, I'd be paying the 6.4% total state/local sales tax, plus the new 6.5% tax, plus a 2.5% "public improvement fee" that is basically an additional BS tax charged by the developer of the shopping center that is supposed to go towards landscaping, maintenance, etc.

On the $10.99 call this would still only bring my total to $12.68. You'd be at 28% or more to bring the total over $14 on a $10.99 purchase which seems high even for Colorado with all its special metro districts, public improvement fees, etc.

I also don't see anything in the legislation that would apply the new tax to an elk call. It applies to firearms, "firearm precursor parts", and ammunition.

Those are more irritating than an actual tax.

Interesting that that exemption allows for "retired law enforcement officers", but not retired military.

I can’t find the receipt so I may have thrown it out when I left the store. However, I wasn’t asking about the amount. I asked if all hunting related items were defined in the law. Again, I remember firearms and accessories. I only asked if someone knew the and could clarify. Let’s stay on track.

Without the receipt, you don’t know if the tax you are asking about was applied. When you questioned the total price, the guy at the store may have incorrectly assumed it was due to the tax.

The CA 11% tax and CO 6.5% tax simply don’t apply to elk calls.

Firearms and precursor parts and FINISHED ammunition.

Neither law even applies to ammunition precursors. Bullets, cases, powder and primers are not impacted by either of these new laws.

No.

Just purchased some ammo from brownells and didn’t see the tax… hoping lots of online retailers dont get the memo…

Probably in your politicians pocket, just another lame attempt to discourage and eventually outright ban any type of purchases related to firearm related issues. In the end it will be cheaper to buy weed but then perhaps that’s the goal keep everyone in a clouded haze and dependent on a false narrative in place supported buy an imposing government.
