Colorado…

Ok someone who understands these things better... what is the non res cap (up to) 35% actually mean?

Im having issue understand how the number of tags went 32% res vs 65% non res for 2ndary draws..... and only 68% of the residents who applied drew????

NVM, i got it now i think, turns out a whole boat load of people blew it on their first choice... even someone at 14 points *woah* but mostly it was non residents first choice at 0 - 1 points '

What can you do *shrug*

But how many people who applied last year had 4 points? This is point creep to a T
4 pts drew out at roughly 40%. So last year 4 may have got you a tag and 5 guaranteed one. This year, 5 didn’t even guarantee one.

I’m honestly more shocked that I didn’t get my 2nd choice. My dad and I Grabbed that tag in the leftover pool 2x (2019 and 2020) without any issues. Didn’t hunt that area last year but there were tags available on leftover day last year. So went from a leftover tag to not even getting drawn 2nd choice.

Wow. Gohunts 100% second choice odds actually = 37%.
That’s like the third time you’ve said it. Do you not realize those are LAST year’s odds? They can’t possibly predict future applicants OR possible tag reductions. A better indicator is looking at the trend of total applications for several years. If you see a steady growth year after year which almost every tag does, you can assume those odds will be worse than previous years. If unit A has 500 tags and last year you saw they had 480 applicants, it was a pretty good indicator this year would be less than 100%.

Big thing I noticed on the post draw report is there were 36247 residents that selected a preference point for first choice and 63806 non residents. That’s not including youth at about 4k each. Lots of points out there sitting on the sidelines

Did you see where someone blew 20 points on that unit? I drew as NR 2nd choice, but shocked at the points that were burned on that draw.

Yea pretty blown away. I may not be getting into that unit again for a few years (ever?) depends if i blow my points and then start playing that 0-2 point game..

one things for sure... if that unit see's even half of those tags show up in September, its gonna be wayyyyy crowded

But: writings on the wall i guess, ill go to my other OTC units, brush up on some old honey holes, see how they're doing lately, and then curse/spit/cry/whine when those OTC units go to a draw also....

Not asking for exact location, but general coordinates for this?
In or around the parts of CO west of the front range! Heck what a great tip, you can even narrow down like 60% of the OTC units available in CO with that tip haha. Seriously though, they had elk at one point but they werent my favorite spots or i wouldnt have applied somewhere else.

My odds went from 74% to 44%...anticipating a point jump next season for sure.

So I got my Buck tag, I put in for a Doe tag as second choice in the same unit and didn't get it and per their draw results there are 121 leftover tags. So my question is why wouldn't I draw it?

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're saying but... you can only draw one tag, not two. You drew your first choice buck tag. They aren't gonna give you a doe tag too?

I was under the impression I could get both. I talked to a ranger over the phone at the steamboat springs office and was told I could get both.

You can (sometimes) HAVE two tags, but I don’t believe you can DRAW two tags. Once you pulled your first choice tag your application was over with.

You can have both as long as one is a list A and the other a list B but you won't draw both in the primary draw. The doe tag can be drawn in the secondary draw or picked up as a leftover/turned in license.

I have posted a couple times about how the next 5 years are going to be crazy. People in the 10-20pp range aka "no man's land" are going to be cashing in points in "lower" units due to the wolf reintroduction. They would rather take the chance at a good representative animal before the "pretty dogs" start eating them.

People with 20pp are not even close to drawing 1, 2, 10, 201. Wolves could destroy the quality of those units in two years. Then what was the point of waiting all those years?

So you can expect some craziness to unfold.

Unless they've changed things, you can't apply in the second draw if you drew in the primary draw.
