Colorado Unit 49 burning.

The real question will be........how will the fire itself, all that equipment, and personnel on the ground affect the dynamics of that area. Where did the elk get pushed to? Could be an interesting season. I love curveballs.

you nailed it 5Miles--unfortunately, I no longer live in the Springs and am in Kansas next door--scouting trips are a bit more involved.

As of today all of unit 49 has removed fire restrictions (Lake, Chaffee, and Park counties)...good sign

Anyone have any input into how the season went? What are the odds the burn area regrows strong next year. Haven’t been able to get up and check the burn scar yet and see truely how hot it got

I can tell you 4th rifle elk sucked ass, I couldn't turn up any elk at all and everyone I spoke with said the same thing, I never saw an elk hanging in any camp I went by. As for the burn, I was told by several people the forestry had it shut down to the public due to it being "unsafe" and were issuing tickets to people who went in there. Not just the burn but about double the size of it was closed. Cody park south to about a mile north of Salt Creek was closed apparently.

Dang that’s really a bummer. I’m sorry to hear that. Haven’t had a chance to get up there and see the burn. Haven’t heard if it was a super hot fire that’s gonna prohibit growth for the next few years or if it’s gonna kick start some new growth rather quickly. Any thoughts?
