Hey Guys, I am from Indiana and a few buddies and I are going to hunt second rifle season. This is all of our first times hunting the mountain and I was wondering if anyone has any advice or suggestions! We are planning on getting there the 17th to get acclimated and to do some scouting before the season comes in the 21st. We are leaning toward some of the units around Glenwood springs. If anyone has any advice or suggestions everything will be appreciated! feel free to message me or leave a comment! Thanks in advance!

Going up on the 17'th will put in in for the last two days of the first rifle season. You will see allot of traffic coming out of the area Tuesday and Wednesday depending on where you are at. If I had to guess, in an Over the Counter unit I would probably say 30-50% of the people leave after about three days of the 5 day season. However, there will still be quite a few hunters in the field for that Tuesday and Wednesday. It is obviously a good idea to get some scouting in and get up high and glass if you can, but don't be surprised if you don't see allot. The elk will have been and still are pressured from first season so expect them to be going nocturnal. Try not to get too deep into where you plan to hunt on Thursday and Friday. it is a good idea to not put any more pressure on them than needed and hopefully they will calm down a little bit for 2'nd.

Where at in Indiana you guys from? I'm heading way from southern mi on the 15th. I used to hunt quite a bit in the Peru area

I'm from NW Indiana. Like has been stated you will see others out and about don't get discouraged a lot of people are lazy. Also not sure how you were planning on scouting but don't walk around a bunch in the areas you want to hunt just glass from afar and don't leave until you can't see at all sometimes those elk will come out at the very last few minutes of light. Your going to earn any success you have be prepared to work your butt off for the entire season if need be and stay positive. Be prepared with a few areas to hunt prior to even arriving but also be prepared to adjust on the fly with changing conditions your A spot might be crowded or void of elk theirs a line between not giving an area enough time and when its time to move to area B, C, or D.

My fav season is 3rd I started out hunting 1st but switched to 3rd on my last trip out. However I will be in CO Solo in 2nd this season after Muleys haven't decided if I'm going to pick up an Elk tag yet.
