OK, so overnight this bill has turned in to an FOID card bill.. Now you will be required to take a safety course every five years and carry a card in order to buy any kind of semi auto firearm. Of course you need to get fingerprinted and pass a background check to get the card and than I'm sure another background check when you purchase the firearm.

""FIREARMS SAFETY COURSE ELIGIBILITY CARD"

Requires firearm owners to take a safety class with fees paid to the county sheriff and to Parks & Wildlife. Fingerprints and background check then the card is good for 5 years.

Parks can determine the fee, and can only raise it once per year.

It creates a new "FIREARMS TRAINING AND SAFETY COURSE CASH FUND"."

I'm not paying this state money to exercise a right.

I don't think that is entirely accurate:

2 (II) "SPECIFIED SEMIAUTOMATIC FIREARM" DOES NOT INCLUDE:
3 ...........
13 (D) A SINGLE OR DOUBLE ACTION SEMIAUTOMATIC HANDGUN
14 THAT USES RECOIL TO CYCLE THE ACTION OF THE HANDGUN;

Does the new bill language with the "training class/background check" maintain the fixed magazine?

A link to the current bill is in my post a couple posts up.

But yes, having to take the extra finger printing and background check along with the training gives you the "right" to buy a semi auto firearm without a fixed magazine.

Are all firearms/magazines prior to this going into effect grandfathered in?

Thanks

A friend sent it to me earlier and I skimmed it at work. I thought the new language allowed for that, he thought the opposite.

The FOID requirement was their last minute add on last night in a push to be able to say that they aren't paying an assault weapons ban and to get Polis to sign on. The bill is still a hot mess as written. It's a poll tax in the end.

The senator that introduced the amendment had to pull it minutes after the fact because the language was so messed up and then re enter it hours later.

The courts in just the past month ruled the Illinois FOID card requirement as being unconstitutional so this is going to get shot canned pretty fast if it gets passed.

The liberal cancer on this state has done nothing but metastasize. I’ve busted my hump to fight against every gun bill, wildlife bill and anti-oil/gas bill in the last 10 years but I’m exhausted. I’m tired of the delusional lack of accountability and ultra disconnection with reality.

This by and far puts the cherry on top.

Also, HB 24-1348 is listed on the 2025 Big Game Brochure (look at New for 2025 on the front cover). It refers to firearms left in unattended vehicles. It states that handguns must be in a hard locked case if left in an unattended vehicle. Firearms that are not handguns (rifles, shotguns), must be in a LOCKED hard sided or soft sided case, and the firearm must also have a lock on the firearm itself.

Am I reading this correctly? As of now any high cap magazine prior to July 2013 is still ok?

I feel ya man. Spent hours emailing last night and following up with phone calls today on SB25-003 and HB25-1258 (could set the stage to end hunting in CO, very dangerous precedent).

It seems like it never ends. It is such a relief when General Assembly ends.

Keep up the fight, generations of Coloradans will benefit from your advocacy.

So basically I need to pass a background check and get a piece of paper to prove that I am eligible to fill out another piece of paper and pass the exact same background check.

It sounds like what they've done to the concealed carry permit "requirements" as well. Mine just renewed this past year, but when it expires......I'm done with their games.

Is the intent of this language to differentiate between firearms with pistons, gas ports, and gas tubes, and straight-blowback, roller delayed, inertial actions? It doesn't make sense to me, from a physics standpoint.

From their viewpoint......you can't have a gas tube.......that makes a very violent gun. Well that, and just their desire for total control over "the people" issue.
