I did a general search and couldn’t see that anyone has posted about this yet. Maybe they did, my apologies if it has but here is a little something I wrote up about this crazy bill in Colorado. Feel free to share this to anyone you know in Colorado. I typed it in a way that it should be easily shareable and copy/paste.

Colorado gun activist are attempting to push the most aggressive and tyrannical gun bill in Colorado history and is considered one of the worst measures ever proposed in US history.

If SB25 is passed it will ban 99% of firearms commonly owned and purchased in this state. It’s not just sporting rifles, it’s semi-automatic shot guns and every semi-automatic pistol. Everything from a semi-auto shotgun that is gas operated to your Smith & Wesson .9mm that a single mother carries for protection. This will wipe out gun stores and leave our future generations defenseless.

I understand we all have busy schedules but my hopes would be this would hit close to home for you and would do the following:

#1 Please go to this link and sign the petition. https://action.rmgo.org/1927_AssaultWeaponsBan.aspx

#2 Share the heck out of this or something similar with anyone you know who would help defeat this. We have got to let our brothers, sisters, moms, dads, children, coworkers, etc know about this.

#3 Please consider signing up for the public hearing testimony scheduled for Jan 28th. You can do a written letter if you have no free time, online testimony or if you are free they are always accepting in person testimonies at the capital. https://www.leg.state.co.us/clics/clics2025A/commsumm.nsf/NewSignIn.xsp

Below is the direct link to Rocky Mountain Gun Owners for all the necessary links and information for calling representatives, petitions, hearings and information on bills being proposed. https://linktr.ee/rmgo_official?fbc...9vbFGfBMr-yMU6Bs2g_aem_OEPSU7_bgUP38MjsOXg5TQ

I feel more than ever this bill and this fight is imperative that we win. Please do not sit back on this.

I am opposed to this bill. But in the spirit of transparency, is that statement above correct?

It looks like it bans semi-auto with detachable magazines. That would not include most semi-auto shotguns (i.e., Benelli 12ga for duck hunting), would it?

Also, certainly revolvers, bolt action guns, and semi-auto shotguns (without detachable mags) make up >1% of gun purchases in CO, right?

Yeah I revised the post, what I ment to say is anything gas operated which does include a great deal of shot guns and other rifles that don’t even take a detachable magazine. It’s an incredibly aggressive bill.

But I don’t think that’s true, is it?

The bill defines a "specified semiautomatic firearm" as a semiautomatic rifle or semiautomatic shotgun with a detachable magazine or a gas-operated semiautomatic handgun with a detachable magazine.

So a gas-driven semi-auto shotgun isn’t included as it’s currently written.

And even if it was, that’s not 99% of firearms sold in CO.

Again, I’m strongly opposed to the bill. But I do want us to be accurate in our depiction of it.

Seems like ar15s and about all semi auto handguns would be banned. Strange that the more gun laws CO passes the more violent crime we have. It's almost like we are importing criminals to live in our cities.

Here is a repost from Spartan Defense here in Colorado Springs. If you are a CO resident please help!

From Ian at Rocky Mountain Gun Owners - Official Page
Howdy Folks,

After talking to our leadership, we’ve come up with a plan moving forward, and I need you guys to help me out executing this part. I don’t like to act with haste, but we could see this on the floor any day, so we need to act now.

1.) This is the list of Senators who we need to vote no in order to kill this thing. Please email, call and try to meet in person at the Capitol and instruct your customers to do the same. Be firm but respectful in your urge for them to vote no. I have listed them in the order of priority, but we need all 6 votes to kill the bill in the Senate.

Sen. Marc Snyder (SD-12: Manitou Springs)

Sen. Kyle Mullica (SD-24: Northglenn)

2.) Finally, if you have not given to RMGO yet this year, I get it times are hard with the new regulations, but we need to run program like we did last year, specifically our patch through calls and text messages programs— which we found to be the most effective. we are already running these programs, but we are running out of cash to keep them up. We cannot do that without your help and the help of grassroots activist around the state.

If you are able, give here: https://secure.anedot.com/rocky-mountain-gun-owners/donatenow_homepage

If we work together, we might just be able to beat this thing! I really appreciate what you guys are doing (and will do) for gun owners to secure our second amendment freedom to buy semi automatic firearms. "

I was under the impression that this bill was only trying to ban AR pistols. I just read the text and am confused by the language (surprise!). Can any other gun mechanics nerds comment on reasonable interpretations of the text of the bill in its current form?

After a bit of research and careful reading, it seems that your typical hammer/striker fired handguns are exempted. But it also looks like perhaps some older-school, blowback operated handguns will be outlawed in addition to AR pistols and CZ Scorpion-type pistols. Do I have that right?

Regardless, f--- this bill, but let's make sure to talk about it accurately.

In section 2(c) it defines "gas-operated semiautomatic handgun" as following
(c) "GAS-OPERATED SEMIAUTOMATIC HANDGUN" MEANS ANY SEMIAUTOMATIC HANDGUN THAT HARNESSES OR TRAPS A PORTION OF THE HIGH-PRESSURE GAS FROM A FIRED CARTRIDGE TO CYCLE THE ACTION USING ANY OF THE FOLLOWING:
(I) A LONG-STROKE PISTON SYSTEM IN WHICH GAS IS VENTED FROM THE BARREL TO A PISTON THAT IS MECHANICALLY FIXED TO THE BOLT GROUP AND MOVES TO CYCLE THE ACTION;
(II) A SHORT-STROKE PISTON SYSTEM IN WHICH GAS IS VENTED FROM THE BARREL TO A PISTON THAT MOVES SEPARATELY FROM THE BOLT GROUP SO THAT THE ENERGY IS IMPARTED THROUGH A GAS PISTON TO CYCLE THE ACTION;
(III) A SYSTEM THAT TRAPS AND VENTS GAS FROM EITHER THE BARREL OR THE CHAMBER TO DIRECTLY STRIKE OR IMPINGE THE BOLT, BOLT CARRIER, OR SLIDE ASSEMBLY, TO UNLOCK AND CYCLE THE ACTION;
(IV) A HYBRID SYSTEM THAT COMBINES ELEMENTS OF A SYSTEM DESCRIBED IN SUBSECTION (1)(c)(I) OF THIS SECTION WITH A SYSTEM DESCRIBED IN SUBSECTION (1)(c)(II) OR (1)(c)(III) OF THIS SECTION TO CAPTURE GAS VENTED FROM THE BARREL TO CYCLE THE ACTION; OR
(V) A BLOWBACK-OPERATED SYSTEM THAT DIRECTLY UTILIZES THE EXPANDING GASSES OF THE IGNITED PROPELLANT POWDER ACTING ON THE CARTRIDGE CASE TO DRIVE THE BREECHBLOCK OR BREECH BOLT REARWARD

In section 2(d), it outlaws "Specified semi-automatic firearms" which it then defines as following.
(d) (I) "SPECIFIED SEMIAUTOMATIC FIREARM" MEANS ANY OF THE21 FOLLOWING, EXCEPT AS PROVIDED IN SUBSECTION (1)(d)(II) OF THIS SECTION:
(A) A SEMIAUTOMATIC RIFLE OR SEMIAUTOMATIC SHOTGUN WITH A DETACHABLE MAGAZINE; OR
(B) A GAS-OPERATED SEMIAUTOMATIC HANDGUN WITH A DETACHABLE MAGAZINE.

It then makes exceptions for the following.
(II) "SPECIFIED SEMIAUTOMATIC FIREARM" DOES NOT INCLUDE:
(A) A FIREARM DESIGNED TO ACCEPT, AND CAPABLE OF OPERATING ONLY WITH, .22 OR LOWER CALIBER RIMFIRE AMMUNITION, UNLESS THE FIREARM HAS A SEPARATE UPPER AND LOWER RECEIVER;
(B) A FIREARM THAT IS MANUALLY OPERATED BY BOLT, PUMP, LEVER, OR SLIDE ACTION;
(C) A FIREARM THAT HAS A PERMANENTLY FIXED MAGAZINE THAT CANNOT ACCEPT MORE THAN FIFTEEN ROUNDS OF AMMUNITION;
(D) A SINGLE OR DOUBLE ACTION SEMIAUTOMATIC HANDGUN THAT USES RECOIL TO CYCLE THE ACTION OF THE HANDGUN;
(E) A FIREARM THAT HAS BEEN MADE PERMANENTLY INOPERABLE; OR
(F) AN ANTIQUE FIREARM AS DEFINED IN 18 U.S.C. SEC. 92113 (a)(16).

This bill bans all semi auto gas operated firearms with detachable magazines. The gas operated thing is in there in order to not outlaw every handgun on the market as the majority of them operate via recoil. Of course an AR pistol would be gas operated thus illegal with a detachable magazine.

Amazing how far left Colorado is. Can't believe I used to go there. Looks like the invasive species made it there. They are here and trying to change it all too. Been here 40 plus years, but I'm looking elsewhere, where free people live LOL.

It’s awful. There is no limit to the willingness of CO Dems to strip away constitutional rights. It’s almost as if they have a never ending hunger for more anti-gun laws and restrictions. Will it ever end? Any chance they pause to see if the current laws are working?

That's the thing......crime is already illegal, but adding more laws will fix the problem? That's how you know that this has absolutely nothing to do with actually fixing the problem. Their first mistake is identifying the tool as the problem, but that's not a mistake.....it's intentional.....because it has nothing to do with fixing the problem.......it's just their power and control over "the law abiding people" agenda. Perhaps guns can be identified as "undocumented" instead of "illegal" if this passes.
