Not wanting to stir any pots here, but how are archery hunters reacting to the Muzzy season dates for 2019? This seems to land during prime rut activity?

Should be able to knock down some good bulls with the rut in those less dense areas. Archery and muzzy season always overlap just 1 week later. Who knows weather could move rut up even earlier..

I think you're going to see LOTS of people dumping PPs this year... Point creep like never before

I'm was planning to dump my points on a muzzy hunt. I'm afraid I'm going to get screwed though if I put in for the units that took my number of points in last year's draw. I am pretty sure it's going up this year. Not sure what I'm going to do.

I don’t really like the muzzy dates as far as the full moon being the first night of the season this year. Not that the moon makes it impossible. But next year’s muzzy hunt should line up with the new moon. That’s the only thing that has me waivering between going this year or next.

Truthfully, just go hunting, don't let something as trivial as a MZ hunt on certain dates effect your decisions. Hunt where most will not venture, this can be done inside two miles, be creative in your spots!

The ML season is always the third week of archery, just so happens that it falls later this year. However, that also means that archery goes later as well. Last year the last day was the 23rd, this year it is the 29th. So if you're worried about all the ML hunters, go earlier and later. But just because the ML season is where it is this year, there shouldn't be anymore of them than usual. I don't think the tag numbers have changed.

My buddies and I are going the week of ML. Looking at past statistics there aren't enough muzzy hunters in our unit to make a big difference. Then again this is my first post on Rokslide and my first archery elk hunt so this year maybe a learning experience on hunting the week of ML.

This past year in the unit I was in, it was hot and dry. The rut was very slow. I was still able to fill my tag. To me, the dates are not as important as knowledge of the area and knowing what the elk are going to do based off the weather and pressure.

The whole moon thing cracks me up sometimes... I've killed some of my best bulls and had the best rutting action during the full moon. Sure, it may "change" things a bit as far as times of day goes, but it by no means makes the hunting worse. It's the last thing that concerns me. There is a whole list of things that are out of your control that will affect the elk much more than the moon. Weather and hunting pressure being at the top.

I don't think we sill see that much creep based on season dates but we shall see. I dumped the 61 tag last year, will draw again this year. Should be decent.

Archery dates are excellent this year. And i'm not talking about the last 7 days after the MLs.
