Colorado legal question

Do you think that guy is a hunter? Or is it a thief being an opportunist and realizing how much some of our gear is worth?
I like to think hunters wouldn't do that but I've been proverb wrong before.

I always have game cams up in at least two non-obvious places around my base camp. Last year I had pics of a group of dirt bike riders going by my base camp every day. One of those days one of the riders decided to drive into my camp and "check it out". I find even that to be pretty ballsy.

Anyone who votes for hillary may as well be an anti-hunter as well as anti-constitution. Trump is an idiot as well but not even in the same category as the douche hillary.

As for the GW consent to search. I think i will say no next time as well. I never really thought about it and was usually just being agreeable. but i guess i better make sure i dont have any tail lights out or numbers missing on my boat that day.

I'll take the douche over an idiot. Do you really want an idiot running our country?

I'm not making any assumptions, I just made some statements looking for some clarifications and thoughts.

So you hike in two days before season opens to an area you are going to hunt. You set up camp the first night, and maybe it's the spot you plan to stay on the second night as well. Obviously you're going to do some scouting that day, so do you leave your rifle laying in your tent?

Maybe you don't want to stay there in case you find a spot you want to hunt while scouting the next day so you put your camp back on your back and start moving. Really the same situation as day one you're walking into an area with a rifle before season.

Based on the two responses, you would have to hike all the way back out the night before opening morning and then hike back in with your rifle on opening morning. Kind of defeats the purpose of hiking in a couple of miles to be there before opening morning? If you start hiking in at midnight because you got a four or 5 our hike, the game warden could write you a ticket for hunting at night. Granted I know they're not likely going to do that but there's lots of scenarios like this.

We have always packed in a day or generally two early, we always break down camp the next morning and put it back on our backs, and obviously the rifles have to go with us. We have never had a problem but granted I've never seen a warden that far back in the backcountry either. Maybe we've just been lucky?

So do we need to start leaving our rifles in the truck and hiking all the way back out the night before and sleeping at the truck and coming back in the next morning?

You're making this way to difficult and trying to split hairs. If you hike in 2 days before with your rifle on ur pack unload it! If you are carrying it the day before the hint cause you are still moving camp to a new location or scouting unload it!! The warden is gonna ask the questions are you hunting? No why do you have a rifle? I am heading to camp for the beginning of the season tomorrow. Is your rifle loaded? No ok sir have a good day. Now carrying around a loaded rifle 2 days before the season is gonna raise more and more questions so make this simple carry ur rifle all you want before the season after the season during the season after you've tagged out just unload it. And when they ask say I didn't feel safe leaving my gun in my tent at base camp due to not trusting everyone in this country. If it's passed down to your pack they are gonna understand don't be carrying it around in your hand with rounds in it after ur done hunting that's gonna raise suspicion. And if you are done hunting don't have bullets in ur pocket that simple. And if you're that worried about self defense you need your rifle go buy a 300 dollar pistol and carry that, trust me way easier to draw a pistol and shoot that try to get a charging bear in ur sights through a scope at 15 yards. Use your head and don't do anything that would raise suspicion. If ur 1 and only tag is filled you are done hunting you can no longer shoot your high caliber rifle at any game big or small. If you are truly that worried about it but a bear tag for the corresponding season and carry your loaded high caliber rifle with you. That's an easy fix right there who cares if your aren't truly hunting bear and trying to help a buddy least you got ur rifle, it's loaded and you have a tag. Plus might shoot a bear off the dead elk your buddy shot.

That's not really a wise decision....but have at it.
You may want to read up on the law and power given to GW's before you go measuring your dick for no reason. If your legal and not a complete pecker make the guys day easier. Nothing like a person being a tool for no other reason then they can...

We've already had several running the country. I'd rather have a chicken running the country than a liberal, because at least the chicken would eventually get something right just by probability.

And if people don't think that politics is directly related to hunting and hunting topics.......you haven't been alive very long. If you let that dog die, even talking about hunting topics could be illegal eventually.

Was satire. I actually don't mind letting them Check me occassionally. Good to know I didn't buy my license for nothing.

Most of the game wardens I've met in CO are pretty decent people, and hunters as well just like the rest of us. I've hunted the same draw unit 4 out of the last 7 years with LO Tags. I met the game warden a few years ago in there and have since become pretty good friends. He helped me blood track my bull one year, and I helped his son out on their hunt last year. His son drew a ML tag and was going into the Marines right after the season. In all these past years and the time we've spent together in there.......not once has he even checked my license. So they aren't always looking to be dicks and/or hammering on guys.

Yup the 3 Wardens that frequent the area I hunt are all good guys, they'll check your license but they are very nice.

The only one I've met personally, honest to goodness, pointed at a squirrel track and called it a coyote track.

I've seen wardens from time to time in the unit I hunt but they have never noticed me. I had 2 ride right past me on horseback but I was sitting in an aspen grove and they didn't notice me. I respect game wardens for what they do, mainly because they are funded by hunters and not taxes but I wouldn't give away my position or open myself up to conversation with most any law enforcement officers simply because from the point of contact till the end they are trying to incriminate you. A simple "where are you headed" is the step one, answer the wrong way or add suspicion and things can often turn for the worst. Even if you have done nothing wrong.

Not that I don't respect law enforcement, I just know my rights and any lawyer worth his salt would advise you the same. Just remember, we all have rights and they are going down the toilet sooner rather than later.

I prefer to be friendly and answer any questions they ask. We're usually joking around by the time we go our separate ways.

Hell they aren't all that bad. They typically only jack with you when your out there acting like a texan. If your not, its usually a "hello, seein anything? can i see your license?, goodbye".

^^^^^^ +1 to that. And with the transfer of public lands that's an ongoing fight, and the criminalization of certain looking firearms... there is a lot at stake if the abortion party gets their way. But I think that as much as politics is hunting related it should be a different thread than this.

Ive carried my rifle after I was tagged out because I wasn't going to leave a family heirloom in a tent on public land. the bolt was in a safe location at camp. not even the ballziest theif was gonna steal my dirty socks and underware.

Ive also been stopped by what turned out to be the dynamic duo a few years ago. Day before deer season in Nor Cal, DFG GW and FED WM stopped me and my friends in our sidebyside. I had just shot 2 sooty grouse and they were in the back along with about 8 random beer cans we had been picking up from the road. the conversation went like this, and keep in mind... those grouse... looked just like theyre supposed to look.
GW- I have half a mind to give you a DUI for those beer cans.
ME- DUI? don't you mean open container?
GW- does it even matter? ... what you got there? (grabs one of the grouse)
FED WM- is that a baby turkey?
ME- its a Hungarian ptarmigan.
GW- are those even in season?
ME- ... absolutely!
FED WM- nice job, just slow it down on these roads ok, deer season starts tomorrow, you might want to leave the shotgun at camp.
ME- thanks guys...
as I drive off wondering how the hell they got their jobs....

ive never had a bad encounter, most are great, they tend to see my badge when im getting my license for them and sometimes at that point they don't even check.

but that had to be the most strange by far
