Colorado leftover draw

I’m wondering if anyone knows if any tags get added to the leftover draw list that comes out in August, or is the current leftover list that just came out after the draw the end of the tag allocation.

It will change after the 21st and people who drew couldn't pony up the payment. Tags that people turn back in will also be added randomly. I think there's an app that alerts you to tags that get added to the leftover list.

I received an email it’s a link to the Elk Leftover Draw deadline to apply is June 26th. After drawing is completed the next list will be started for the returned tags. That takes place in August, where it will be a cluster F, with everyone trying to get the tags they want at 9 AM.

So the same as every year?

I selected “send me the leftover draw” but I don’t any related emails. Was this a separate email people are taking about?

Just a reminder, IF you participate in the leftover draw and draw a tag- you DO NOT get a preference point for the year- even though this was not probably your first choice.

On August 6, all the leftovers from the first leftover drawing AND any tags that werent paid for, AND any re-issued, refunded, exchanged tags available at that time.

After that, re-issued, refunded, exchanged tags will be made available randomly - so check the leftover list often.

NOTE:
Next year there wont be a leftover list, all leftover tags will go thru a leftover drawing

Im not so sure about that ^^^^ ????

Actually, I think you are correct. I got that from the regs where it states

IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER ABOUT THE LEFTOVER DRAW:

A. PREFERENCE POINTS are NOT accumulated or used during the leftover draw.

I then called CPW- I got an agent that confirmed you would NOT get a point for the year if you received a leftover tag in the secondary draw.

That seemed odd to me, and after what you stated- and I got an email back from CPW that then stated that was incorrect and you would get a point, and the above statement is meant to say that you will not receive ANOTHER preference point if again unsuccessful. I think that is obvious, but the wording of the regs could be a little more clear.

Just so people aren't completely confused, there will still be a leftover list eventually, but first there will be a secondary draw for all the tags that anyone can enter. Once that is done there will still be a leftover list for whatever else is left and for what gets reissued.

Edited to add:. This was supposed to be a reply to cnelks post above about next year.

I dont think just anyone will be able to enter the secondary draw next year.
Basically, if its a 'draw', a person is going to need a qualifying license.

That means if you want to be eligible for the secondary draw, you have to apply, and that requires a qualifying license.
No more sitting back, waiting for the leftover list, [re-issue and crap tags excepted] standing in line fiasco, and get a tag in August

Its a good move from the CPW after years and years of the Leftover Day Chaos

I like that idea. Juts keep drawing people who signed up for the tag until someone gets it. This leftover day chaos is downright craziness.

It’s always bugged me to see leftovers for a tag I was unsuccessful drawing. Seems to be a symptom of a broken system. Happened to another guy in our group this year. Two of us drew as a second choice. He got nothing and there are almost 20 leftovers.

Were you non-residents and the quota had been filled and the residents went to leftover? Not sure how that works.

Example:
10 tags
8 go to resident draw
2 go to non-resident draw
6 residents draw 2 - go undrawn
2 non residents draw filling quota

do the 2 resident tags go to leftover or do they fill the non-residents with those tags?

I believe they go to the leftover drawing.

Someone chime in on this one please.

I agree completely. I was more referring to anybody can enter regardless of whether they put in for the the regular draw or not. It is a completely new secondary draw that will still probably have the same license requirements as the first draw, but it is not specifically linked to having done the first draw in order to enter the secondary.

Anyone surprised how many EM077O1A 77, 78, 771 tags are available on the leftover list?
